| Best puppy food What is the best puppy food for a 4 month old yorkie? Michi eats royal canine puppy for yorkies and he loves it! And I like that it is specfically designed for yorkies. But he eats his poop (or tries to at least) and someone told me that it may be because he is not getting enough protein or nutrients from his food. Also, he tends to lick and sometimes kinda gnaw on his paws....and I heard that can be related to his food as well. I hate to change his food, especially since he likes it so much, but if I have to I will, |

| If you have found a food that this baby will eat, I would strongly advise you to stick with it or you will join the millions that get caught up in spending all your time trying to find something that puppy wants to eat!! You are going to create a problem where there is none!!!....Puppies eat poop....not uncommon...are you free feeding this baby, so he can eat when he is hungry? If he gets hungry and he has nothing down to eat, he will eat poop! At 4 months old, he should be free fed anyway....he needs every bit of nutrition he can get as he is a building machine right now, until he is at least 10-12 months old, every morsel of food he ingests goes into building organs and bones and brain and heart muscle, etc, etc, etc.....there will be days he will not want to eat at all, just like we all have days where we dont feel like eating........dont panic and start running all over town, trying a dozen different foods!! He is eating what you have him on and he loves it, and it is great food for him! If it aint broke, dont "fix" it!!! You are just asking for additional stress if you start messing around with his diet! As far as chewing on his feet, they do that for dozens of reasons...twigs or little something caught between pads of feet.....could be an allergy to GRASS!!! .....sometimes, unless they become obsessed with chewing on feet, he is just sucking on his toes! You cant make a major problem or issue out of every silly thing these babies do, you will drive yourself crazy and make your puppy neurotic! If he is continously chewing/sucking on his feet, explore that behavior....if he just does it occasionally, see if there is anything caught in the hair between his toes and let it go! |

| I am not free feeding ...I feed him 3x a day because that's what his vet told me to do and also place I bought him from. But maybe I will try that because he does seem hungry all time. Thank you for your advice....I know sometimes I worry too much haha |

| I agree with Yorkiemom1 about free feeding. Buddybear is 15 months old and I still free feed. He eats when he is hungry. The other night after his last potty break before bedtime I was taking my last night time meds and he went to his bowl and ate for about 5 minutes. He seemed so hungry I just stood there and waited. He would chew, crunch crunch crunch, and I told him we would go when he was finished. He kept looking up at me, eating, ,,,,,I said we are not in a hurry, go ahead and eat. Also others have mentioned on here about the poop eating, I think they added pineapple for their pups. I can't remember exactly but do a search and you should find it. If you free feed the poop eating might stop.

| Babies should be free fed. You are providing the building blocks for that baby...he will NOT over eat.....as a matter of fact, his eating will level off and he will not consume any more when free fed, and maybe even less, because he can grab a bite when he is hungry as opposed to engorging himself when he is offered food 3x a day....I have never understood limiting food on a growing puppy...that is like feeding your newborn child 3 times a day, period. You just would not do that! Shouldnt do that for a puppy either...food is his building material and he needs all he can get to during that first year in order to be the absolute best he can be. You certainly wouldnt allow your child to be limited to 3 meals a day and that is all.....puppies shouldnt be limited either....they are growing and building and you need to provide the necessary nutritional intake to enable the very best that pup can be, to develop! Many "breeders" peddle pups and say they are going to be tiny....and then they tell you a meal plan that is essentially STUNTING their growth, starving them!! Cruel!! Feed these babies so they can develop as God intended them to develop...then when they are grown, and food starts going to fat deposits, you can think about 3 meals a day! Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You may want to either switch to food w/ less grain and/or add Solid Gold's SEP (Stop Eating Poop) to his current food. Foods I like: Primal, Natures Variety, Natures Logic, Wellness Core, Solid Gold's Wee Bits or Barking At The Moon...
