| Vaccination I just recently got a year old yorkie named Bella. The previous owners said she has only had her first set of shots, (if they aw even telling the truth about that) my concern is that they did not have any records on her at all so I have no record on her. So when I take her to the vet I'm not sure if I should re do all shots just to be safe or take their word and continue to get the ones she needs. I'm nervous to take her to the vet because of the fact I don't have any information on her I don't want the vet to think i mis treated her. Also with her first visit will they check her for health problems because I don't have info on the parents history either. Thank you |

| Welcome to YT.....The ppl that you got Bella from, did they give you a reason as to why they were re-homing her? ....Is it possible to call the ppl you got Bella from and get the name of the vet they used. Just say you want to know when her next shots are due. If they can provide you with the vet and you know the last name of Bella's prev. owner that vet can give you the info. you need. If you cannot get this from the prev. owner, discuss this with your vet. If you tell the vet you just adopted her the vet will NOT think you mistreated her. The vet will know if it is best to do all vaccines if you cannot provide any history on Bella. Keep in mind, you are not the first person to walk into a vet with a adopted / rescued dog not knowing about past medical history. As for the vet checking for health problems, talk to your vet about this, there are blood tests that can be taken. Tell the vet you want a full blood work up, also bring a FRESH stool sample in with you. I am sure more medically savvy members will be along shortly to suggest what types of blood work is most important, also what vet should make sure to check out. Good luck with your new little girl.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | When you say her "first set of shots", do you mean she only had 1 set of puppy shots and that's all? Or did she complete all puppy shots AND get her 1 yr boosters then? If the puppy shots were not completed, she will need to get parvo, distemper, and rabies...I would get them separately, ESPECIALLY the rabies. You likely do not need the non-core vaccines.

| Thank you for replying. And as far as knowing if it was just a puppy shot or a 1 year shot, I'm unsure. The previous owners were no help at all. Every question I asked they kinda went around the answer instead of being straight forward which makes me more concerned. They said they were rehoming her because they moved to a place where they weren't aloud to have dogs. I was rubbing her belly earlier and I went across her ribs and there is a pointy edge at the end of one of her rib cages. So now I'm freakjng out about that because I'm afraid she has a broken rib or something! Has anyone ever experience that with their yorkie? The other side feels fine but the side that is pointy is like poking her skin |

On the rib, I'd def get an xray...it would be worth it if the vet thinks it also feels unnatural.

The lack of info for vaccines is concerning....I would ask the info of the vet they used & call them. But I have a feeling they're gonna say that they don't know. Makes me wonder if it's really their dog?

| Is a floating rib dangerous to her? And I just don't think they cared enough to take her to the vet honestly. They didn't seem to concerned on giving me info on her. But I'm sure the vet can get her what she needs. I will just explain to them everything

You can have the vet check it out, he/she'll probably feel it when they're examining her. It sounds like she found the perfect loving home w/you...hope all goes well @ the vet's.

| That's a relief to hear! I'll still get it checked out but I was worried about it being something serious!
