| I'm Confused I see so many posts on sick yorkies with various illnesses that seems with outlandish costs for vet bills I was wondering if these puppies are from back yard breeders or from the pure bred AKC type breeders....or both. I am not condemning anyone here: I was wondering if we pay $2000 or $400 for a puppy are our chances of getting not only a healthy puppy but one that lives a long life without health issues any different. ((After just having to put down my Tigger (orange tabby) of 14 years I know the pain of losing a beloved pet/ friend. I am so blessed to have Buddybear to ease my loss. When I took Tigger to the vet it was all about his quality of life I'm thankful I had my dh to help me get through it who doesn't even care for cats but loves me enough to be supportive.)) |

Look for one yes we have many posts on sick yorkies which reflects that this is the premiere site for Yorkies that folks go to when they are researching on a medical condition their Yorkie or for that matter any dog might have. And yes the purchaser needs to investigate the breeder and understand what kind of health checks breed specific health tests are done prior to breeding and what kind of health concerns that are in the lines they are breeding. If the breeder does this and has very fine quality CH Yorkies then you will be investing wisely in this breeder. But there are no guarantees for perfect health in dogs or in humans. I can almost guarantee that any breeder who charges $400 for a puppy does not health test or show their breeding stock.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I had the same concern but after researching it, I found out that you get what you pay for most of the time. So many people try to save money by buying from a back yard breeder but end up spending so much more on vet bills. While it's true that any Yorkie can get sick, reputable breeders significantly lower the risks. |

| Just the cost of the dog and whether is AKC registered will not determine if it's a good breeder and if your less likely to have these issues. Getting a pup from a truly reputable breeder then you are less likely to have health issues but it's still possible. Best thing to do is get pet insurance when there pups. There are issues that yorkies are just prone to.

| My Yorkie and Yorkie mix were both from BYB's because at the time i got them i didnt know how to find a good breeder. Both have been healthy for 11 years and are now having some age-related problems. If I had it to do over I would get my pups from a reputable breeder and probably get health insurance. I think I would try to find one that is larger just because I personally like the bigger babies after having two of them.
