| What should my pups fur feel like? Having never had a Yorkie before I'm very curious as to what my pups fur should feel like. I look at peoples pictures and their dogs fur looks silky and flowing. I know that my girl unfortunately wasn't given a good diet before I got her and in fact went about a week eating oatmeal and grits,so I'm guessing this has something to do with the texture. Her fur feels course like is this normal? |

| Even tho my two have different coats they are still silky feeling. Ziva has a sort of cottony coat and her hair feels like brushed velvet- Abby's more like our own smooth hair. My DD rehomed a yorkie last year - her hair was coarse and crunchy( she was also fat and smelly), she was eating Purina lamb and rice. Within 4 months we saw a huge difference- a year later she is smooth and shiny, her original owners would not recognize her! These 3 are fed a fish based protein grainfree food w/ probiotics and digestive enzymes. It cost me $5-6 a week to feed all three. |

| Wow that's very reasonable. I have her eating Artemis small breed puppy. She was eating Nature's Variety Instinct but I've read that might be to high in protein for her. I also have a Xolo who was eating the NV but he loves the Artemis as well. |

| Yorkies have hair instead of fur. I have never really thought about how it felt before lol. There are two different kind of coats a yorkie can have cotton coat and silky coat. My moms rescue has more of a dry cottony coat but it is very thin. My yorkie has a very thick silky coat. Cotton coats tend to tangle and matt more easily where a silky coat doesn't.

| You didnt mention how old the puppy is. Mine who is definitely NOT the best bred Yorkie around, had a completely different coat as a wee pup then she does now. It was kind of puffy as a puppy so I thought it was cottony...yet it was super soft. As she got older and the hair grew, it has become very straight and super silky soft. Definitely more like human hair in all ways. She's 8 months old now and there has been a huge change in the last 3 months. |

| Have you given her a bath yet? Try looking for a really good conditioner made specifically for Yorkies...go light on the shampoo (also specifically for Yorkies). I definitely wouldn't use baby shampoo or adult human products, its way too harsh for their hair and skin. I also give 1tsp a day of coconut oil mixed into food, which she loves..doesnt have a bad taste. I can't think of the name of the brand I use at home for my girl, and I'm not home..but it was from someones recommendation that I found here. I was able to order it online. |

| Fear not, there are some Yorkies that just don't have the beautiful hair. Our poor Bella looks like no one has ever combed her even though we do it daily. She looks rough within an hour of a bath. We have just settled on the fact that she is not going to be long on "good hair days" and we have told her that she is the beautiful one and those other Yorkies are just yucky!
