| omg- frustrated So my daughter calls me yesterday. Says she got herself a puppy, wants me to hang on to it till she gets back from her Vaca in two weeks. I asked her how old, she says 3/4 months. What breed? A mutt mom. Okay fine, how big, she says, as big as Bruiser. She shows up with this ugly tiny sweet little thing that has milk teeth but no molars and is 2/3rds Bruiser size. (Never thought I would think all 4lbs of him as big) Since we don't know what she is, we don't know how old she is. I'm guessing 4wks/ maybe 5? She's got her all of her teeth except molars. Doesn't/ can't eat kibble, I had some left over goat formula that she lapped up like a boss though. My daughter is gone and I have this thing that just cries all night- even Bruiser doesn't know what to make of her. I offered to take her to the vet just to get things figured out a bit, but Nikki (miss I-Do-It-myself) said no mom, I'll take her when I get back. Dew claws still intact. How do figure out how old she is?? I don't know how to change the size of photos, or I would post a pic. Sorry.

| I would suggest getting her into the vet right away. 2 weeks is much too long to wait. If she is only 4-5 weeks that is too young to have been separated from mom already. Let a vet help you figure it out. Good luck and keep us posted!

| Bring a disaster waiting to happen to me, dump it in my lap for me to take care of until you decide to get back to town and then may or may not attend to business.....no I dont think so girly! Bring me a mess and I will clean it up! It is WAY to early to start vaccinations on this baby....but it does have to eat! Dont guess she dumped puppy food on you also, with the baby......Royal Canin puppy mousse is grreat for unweaned babies, which is what you have there. Good luck! |

| Man, tough situation but I'm all about tough love. If my kid told me to handle something (a LIFE no less) in their absence, I'd do it and they'd never hear the end of all their mistakes until they made it right by me and that dog. I agree that the puppy should probably go to the vet and I know you'll look after it like you would Bruiser. You should probably give your daughter whatever bills you incur which should teach her a rough and ready lesson re: pet ownership. Tough spot to be in and I sympathize. I hope puppy starts to feel better soon and you have some help from your significant other! |

| I'm probably close to your daughter's age. I think you should take the puppy to the vet and give your daughter the bill. If she complains tell her she shouldn't have bought a dog (especially such a young one) right before going away. The puppy's wellbeing trumps her feelings. If she's going to have a dog she needs a crash course in pet responsibility. |

| Update So I took her in this morning. She's a boxer mix (I thought this) with possibly chihuahua? "My vet" wasn't in today so I kinda panicked, and still put more stock in this website then some green behind the ears bouncy vet..... Hope I'm not the only one that's prejudice about these things. She said the pup is about 4wks no more than six.... Hummmmm That I shouldn't give her the goats milk formula because it'll give her diarrhea.... Hummmm again And that I should bring her back in 2 was (presumably 6wks of age) for shots...... What?!? She barely handled the pup before saying all this and I don't think she would have until I reiterated my reason for being there R/O hip displasia. She said her hips were fine and the puppy is still learning to walk. I told the tech that weighed the kid that I feed her Bruisers Wellness Puppy but they gave me a bag of Hills puppy instead. And after paying my bill, I left feeling less at ease then when I first walked in. But puppy is eating, I mostly water down for her the kibble but I also leave some dry that she's experimented with and likes. She's pooping good after the first 24 hours of not, and about 30 minutes of a warm cotton ball, and a bout of carpal tunnel on my end. This has been a learning experience, and when Nikki gets back, her and i will be taking a drive out to Yoder Colorado to "talk" with this irresponsible pet owner.

| I would not do one thing that vet told you to do....goats milk is great for puppies NOT cows milk, but goats milk, the vet must be confused?.....WAY to early for shots....NeoPar for parvo is the ONLY shot I give 4 week old babies, and that will hold them protected until you can EFFECTIVELY start vaccines at 8 weeks old.....I think you are doing great with the "dog food smoothie" you are mixing up for baby....I would give pedialyte for hydration rather than plain water, whenever you have the chance.... To daughter....."Give your heart and soul to God because you A$$ is MINE"!!! would be MY message to her! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 05-30-2015 at 03:55 PM. |
