| Food Hello! I may have missed it on here, but is there a consensus on which dog food is Nutritious and good tasting, for our best little friends? I'm about due for a new bag, and it would be a good time to try out something new. I always give them about 75% dry and 25% canned (I do that because they simply love canned so much). The dry they've eaten most of their lives is Royal Canin's Hydrolyzed, for small dogs. This was because my Maltese started having a skin infection. But, a new vet, who specializes somewhat in skin diseases have us bathing him with a prescription shampoo for that issue and the Hydrolyzed is sooooo expensive. But, of course, they like it, it's around $50 for a 9 pound bag! I'm retired now, so would like to find some thing good that's a little easier on my wallet! The canned is Natural Balance, I think, the chicken variety. They don't care much for Natural Balance's dry chicken recipe. Actually, the problem is my Yorkie, as far as flavor goes. My Maltese is like a goat-he'll eat about anything. But, both of the Yorkies I've had have been much more finicky. Thank you for your recommendations. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT ! Let's see...what food is best. That can be a can of worms here at times . Do you think your skin issue dog still needs a limited ingred food, or are you wanting to now try something more mainstream and see how it goes? Whatever you do try, one tip is to sprinkle Parmesan Cheese onto the kibble - that can be very enticing for dogs. I feed pre-made raw by either Primal or Natures Variety...have been feeding raw for about 6-7 yrs now. For kibbles, some nice ones are Natures Logic, Natures Variety, Acana/Orijen, Solid Gold Wee Bits or Barking At The Moon, Wellness Core...there are lots of decent foods out there....

| Since he seems to not really need it, (and it certainly was doing nothing for the problem), I thought it'd be a good time to try something else out. I'll probably be going bowling tomorrow, so I'll be near a couple of places that have a good variety of quality dog foods. When I was working, a gal there really liked Wellness products. So, she talked me into trying that-but no luck, Peyton no like. I can see where Parmesan cheese would help. I wish Peyton had liked the Wellness products, as that is probably the quality and price point I'm looking for. Thanks! |

| You might want to try Royal Canin's Yorkshire Terrier kibble. My pups who are not on prescription foods do well on this food: Natural Dog Food - Hill's Ideal Balance Dog Food Posting the link so that you can read about it. Some people just see "Hill's" and avoid. I believe this is a good food. I foster pups and I have never had one not take to this food.
