| How to feed recommended amount. Ok, so I feed my 15 week old 3 times a day and 16g per meal of dry food which is what it states on the bag. But, what I introduce tinned meat, if I weigh 16g of it then it doesn't amount too much. I have read the tin and it says for her age I should give her upto 1 tin. Sorry but I think it's completely wrong, that's a lot of food for a small puppy. Anyone know what weight measures I should be using if I feed her tinned meat? Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Puppys should be fed as MUCH as they want...they NEED the calories for energy and glucose, which is vital for the development of muscle as well as BRAIN development. Regardless of how much food it looks like to you, the feeding instructions on that can is SUPPOSED to meet daily minimal requirements necessary for feeding a puppy....if they tell you a can a day, or a can 8 times a day....they know what they put in that can and they know what it is going to take to feed your puppy adequately, to provide MINIMAL daily requirements for a developing puppy. If you do not trust the brand to know what their feeding parameters are to provide basic, minimal daily requirements necessary to provide what your puppy needs to promote excellent health, emotionally, physically, as well as physically, then I would suggest you consider finding a food that you can trust to provide what your baby needs. YT 1000 Club Member | I have to agree with Yorkiemom1. You have a puppy which is comparable with having a human baby in terms of feeding. There's no way you can overfeed a puppy that young. If you're worried about feeding too much, you may want to look into a better brand of food which is more nutrient dense (therefore you feed less) than your current brand. Most puppies that young graze, so you could always put half the can in her bowl and replenish as it's getting low. I'd rather have a chunky puppy at that age than a pup just eating enough to get by. |

| I prefer not to feed her on demand because I am trying to potty train her too which would become a complete nightmare if she ate whenever she liked. |

| You can put her on a schedule. I have always feed mine 3x a day because it makes it easier to potty train also. But they need to get plenty of food. They will eat on a schedule. I've trained my dogs for many year like this. Never became skinny or sickly because of it. |

In this case, you have to weigh what is most important end result for YOU, irregardless of what is in the best interest of the puppy's health, growth, and development, emotionally as well as physically..... I think you can feed scheduled feedings, just not concentrate on "over feeding" a puppy..... Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 04-05-2015 at 02:13 PM. | |
