YorkieTalk Newbie! | Skin infection Does anybody know or can help on my dogs skin problem, what we have noticed is small crust like scabs on his body, our vet prescribed some antibiotics for what he termed as a skin infection which after two courses certainly reduced the problem, but did not totally clear it up, so we asked for some cream, which is to stop the itching and also contains more antibiotics, this we are applying and it seems to help, we have noticed small pink spots appear which break and eventually dry into a small dry scab, can anyone suggest or has knowledge of the problem. |

| When Piccolo had skin problems we first tried the regular vet. I did not even know Vet dermatologists existed at the time or I would have moved more quickly. When I did find out, the vet dermo was able to do biopsies and skin scrapings and diagnosis Piccolo with her problem, which partly was showing up as scabs. Your pup could have one of many, many things. I highly recommend a Vet Dermatologist for your pup. Really, it saves money in the long run. I did have to practically beg to get her in quickly, but it was worth it. I want to wish you the best as you seek help for your little one.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is the infection "pyoderma" - if so, that is staph intermedius and is most usually seen in dogs who have allergies. The gold standard treatment is w/ Simplicef x 30 days. From there, you have to treat the allergies or it will likely come back over and over. Read about how to approach and treat allergies here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html

| You need to find the cause of the skin infection and treat the allergy or it will just keep coming back or not completely go away.
