| Upset stomach from antibiotics About 3 weeks ago our Morkie was put on Clavamox for a bladder infection. She had 3 pills left to take and began throwing up bile, so the vet said not to finish the pills and gave her a shot instead. She continued to throw up off and on, so he then placed her on Pepcid and an anti-nausea medicine. That still didn't completely help, so I thought I would try a probiotic. The vet sold me Purina FortiFlora. I gave her only one dose of it and by the next day she had very runny/bloody stools. I read some reviews on this product and it sounds like some other people have had the same experience as I did. Also, the vet said she has a lot of crystals in her urine, so we are supposed to be switching her over to Royal Canin SO to help with those. Right now she is just being fed chicken and rice. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get her stomach back to normal? Also, any thoughts about the Royal Canin? The ingredients didn't look too impressive for the cost. She had a blood test that came back normal. The vet did say she had a liver enzyme that was slightly elevated, but he thought that may be due to the fact she wasn't feeling well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'm losing a lot of sleep with a sick dog. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Gosh, your poor baby....and poor you too, you must be sick w/ worry. It may just take a little more time to settle down, it's hard to say. Some dogs here do very well on RC, so it may be worth a try. To settle the tummy, you may want to try feeding her some simple carbs throughout the day btwn meals - like bits of bread and/or crackers.

| The vomiting may have been caused by the antibiotics, but something doesn't seem quite right. With an elevated liver enzyme and crystals (I assume struvite) she really needs to have a bile acids test to look at liver function.

| I'm not sure what kind of crystals. The vet never really told me. I'll have to ask when I call them back to update on her progress. |

| I will ask the vet about a bile acids test. I haven't heard of that one before. I just really thought she would be recovered by now from the antibiotics, so I agree something just doesn't seem right. Thanks for the suggestion! |
