| Raw Feeding? Does anyone else here feed raw? We adopted a 2 year old yorkie male from a shelter 3-4 months ago. He had only been fed Pedigree (yuk), and we have had a tough time transitioning him to a decent food. He would throw up just about anything we fed him except the Pedigree. We started adding 2 oz of Primal Raw organic goats milk to his food and it settled his tummy quite a bit, so I decided to try the Primal Frozen Lamb. He has done so awesome on this food. He has not thrown up once since we started it, and the difference in his coat is amazing. He is also still getting the goats milk. He has been on the Primal for about a month now, and he loves the food! When I mentioned what we were feeding him to our vet, she did not seem thrilled about the choice, but couldn't give me any real reason not to feed it to him. Am I missing something though? Does anyone else feed Primal? Is there a reason you are aware of not to feed a yorkie raw food. We also started our two toy poodles on it and they're doing great with it too. Appreciate any input. | 107Barney, I don't necessarily think raw food is better. Actually I never even considered feeding raw in all my years of owning dogs. We switched to it out of desperation when we could not find anything else that agreed with this little guy's tummy. We started the goat's milk first because it was recommended to us by the owner of a small pet food store in our area, and when he did so well on it, we added the frozen cubes of food. So there is no real reason that you know of NOT to feed this particular food? BTW, I commend you for home cooking for your dogs. Our last yorkie had both liver and kidney disease and required a very specialized diet. I home cooked for him for many years, and would gladly do it again. The only special need this little guy has is a sensitive tummy. That he looks so much better since starting this food could very well be just because he's finally off the crap Pedigree food and eating something that is halfway healthy. The difference in his coat is pretty amazing though. When we got him from the shelter, his coat was short, dry, brittle and dull, and did not grow at all the first couple of months. In the past month or so, it has changed texture, is much softer, much shinier and is actually growing now. Thanks for your input. Diana |

| I'm not a fan of raw. I feel the risks out weigh any goods. I'm a big fan of home cooking when done right with the supplements and everything. I wish mine would eat home cooked, I tried it with several recipes but she just wouldn't. She was throwing up at least once a day and my vet diagnosed her with IBD so we went on the prescription Royal Canin Hypoallerginic. If they have food allergy's even a limited ingredient food that is not prescription is made in a plant with food that has the other ingredients so it still gets contaminated with those ingredients.

| Have you tried Fromm, Ojigen or something like that? Also if you do ever again try to feed them dry kibble just give me a teaspoon or two of lifeway plain Kefir right before or after eating - Kefir really helps with digestion and from throwing up. |

I don't know the food specifically to say there is anything "wrong" with it but I'm not comfortable with the risks of raw food to use it. So I wouldn't. If he is doing well on it and you're happy with it then you should continue it. I know you take excellent care of your dogs and I know you'll have labs drawn at the vet to check how the organs and such are doing. best wishes and congrats on your new little one

| Jakester, we have tried Orijen and Acana, not Fromm. Also Merrick chicken stew, Blue Basics Lamb and Sweet Potato and a couple of other commercially prepared foods. We have also tried a couple of the RC limited ingredient RX foods (Venison and Sweet Potato, and Duck and ???). We also had him on the RC lowfat gastro canned food. He did ok on the RC lowfat food, but it isn't an ideal food for our other healthy dogs and I would really like all three of them on the same food. And he did just barely ok on the Blue Basics, in that he was only throwing it up a few times per week. But its not a great food either. It is not that he won't eat the other foods. He is a chow hound and will gobble anything I put in front of him, its holding it down that is the problem. And most of them have also given him really soft stools. We also tried the slowest transition on earth away from the Pedigree, starting with just five kibbles, then ten, then 15. By the time we got to 15, he was usually back to throwing up. We also tried some probiotic packets from the vet but they didn't help much either. The only food he has eaten without throwing up is the Primal, and we've been feeding him that exclusively now for nearly a month. I really don't know if it is the food or the goat's milk that has made the difference, but it would be hard to choose to go back to that crazy food spin! Now you guys have me questioning the safety of the Primal though! I don't know whether to keep feeding it or not. Diana |

| Thank you for the nice words, 107Barney. Coming from you, they were much appreciated. I have three little ones including the new little yorkie and I am pretty anal about their care. My husband always says that if he dies, he wants to come back as one of my dogs! The three I had before these lived to 18, 16 and 15 years. They do get regular vet care and at least annual labs and I do my best to see that all their needs are met. I am just very frustrated over this feeding situation with the little rescue. If I were completely sold on the Primal I wouldn't be here asking questions!! But yes, they do appear to be doing really well on it. Diana |

| I do, I feed 100% premade raw, mainly Primal. My picky Mimi the chef, she gets Primal frozen versions along w/some freeze dried versions of Stella & Chewy's. This is bc she doesn't like the frozen rabbit, but loves the freeze dried rabbit. They also get freeze dried versions of Primal too but mainly eat frozen versions. I rotate proteins for every bag, just for variety. They're doing awesome!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I've been feeding raw for about 6 years now and I absolutely love it for my babies! I feed either Primal or Natures Variety, in various flavors. I think it's an awesome way to feed as close to a "whole food" as possible, since it's so fresh. It's also nice that the natural enzymes are still IN the meat (rather than cooked out), as there is some thought that the enzymes help with preventing tartat buildup etcetera since enzymes help digest food. I also appreciate the very, very small poos they get w/ feeding raw - bonus!

| I have just started giving my 6 year old Stella & Chewy frozen rabbit. It was recommended by a vet to help with her allergies. We have to give it six weeks before we'll know if it makes any difference. I will definitely check in then, and give an update. She's not completely sold on eating it yet, though! I have had to add some organic beef broth to it for her to accept it. |

My Mimi was not too fond of the frozen version of rabbit but she loved the freeze dried rabbit. S&C makes freeze dried version of rabbit, maybe you can try? Email them, they should be able to send you a sample.

YT 2000 Club Member | Dog food I have 2 yorkies that had bad loose stools. They have been on hills ID. I bought dry Royal Canini for sensitive stomach. I want to get them off ID . What wet food would you use. This food has chicken as a base. Should I use the dry and cook chicken. Or buy a cheaper wet food. Thanks so much for helping me. They really like the royal canin |
