| Vomiting and Diarhhea My 7 month old Yorkie was so healthy with firm stool until I started her on an oral med for Ringworm. Herf first few months I had her on a diet of half chicken or beef or salmon with half puppy food and her stomach was great. After two weeks on oral antifungal (she was supposed to be on for 6 wks) I took her off because she had diarhhea and vomiting. It finally stopped and a few days later she was given her first Rabies vaccine That was 2 weeks ago now. She had one day of hard stool and no vomiting on sraight chopped meat and puppy dry food. I added chicken yesterday and the diarhhea/vomiting came back. I dont know if this is a series of coincidence or what might be causing this. I did have her on Chopped Beef and Rice but she actually threw up just the rice so I've even discontinued that. Wondering is she allergic to chicken? Is it the rabies shot? leftover reaction from the oral antifungal? Hesitant to go to vet for tons of tests if its something I can clear up with Diet. SO confused and any suggestions will be appreciated. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT . So sorry your baby is sick. How are you going to treat the contagious ringworm now, did you get something else from the vet? Bc it def needs to be treated. You could ask for an anti-nausea med to use in conjunction w/ the anti-fungal. For the food, I guess I'd avoid the chicken for now and feed beef and potato, ditch the rice. If you're going to homecook long term, then I'd get in touch w/ www.balanceit.com asap for a balanced recipe.

| Thank you so much for your reply and the website. I will visit it. We conquered the ringworm with topicals and shampoo. she has now had 2 negative cultures in a row. Last night the vomiting continued but she woke up this morning as happy as always and wanting to eat and play. Today I am trying just Puppy food ( Blue dry kibble ...oatmeal and chicken and Wellness puppy canned food. ) I am giving her small amounts until this clears up. Just wondering if anyone has had the same reaction after antifungal meds or rabies vaccine????? |

| Hi welcome to YT. Have you asked your vet about a recommended diet? You can also get recipes at petdiets.com if you want to home cook. Rosie has a sensitive tummy. We home cook and use Science Diet ID which works well for her. I understand it's very frustrated. I would call the vet and ask for recommendations.

YT 500 Club Member | I think it is common for yorkies to have sensative stomachs My new guy does to. He throws up yellow bile sometimes in the morning and has had diareha twice since I got him. I will have to try the Hills ID. He is on natural balance no grain salmon and potatoe. Both times he had diarhea he had a new treat. So I am going to cut out the treats for now and just give him his food. |

| My 5 lb 15 yr old William had severe pancreatitis years ago and was it showed up on routine blood work 6 months ago. Elevated amylase 1200 (normal less than 400), Started making chicken/rice/veggie food. He refuses the veggies and most of the rice but eats the chicken (2 ½ Tablespoons twice a day) and his weight is stable. He walks a half mile a day and is very active. Amylase is down to 800. Any ideas as to how I can improve his numbers? He's just a picky eater? I supplement his diet with a 2 tablespoons of Royal Canine low fat gastrointestinal canned food. |

| I can not believe I am battling this again. She was good for a few weeks but now has diarrhea again. My 9 month old yorkie is on blue puppy dry food and wellness canned food. She has had diarrhea again for the last 6 dayss. She is fine otherwise and playing and eating. I don't know if its her food or something wrong with her. Vet now has her on powder probiotics. I just switched this morning to just chopped meat and rice to see if that will help. I am very concerned and don't understand this. Has anyone else had this experience of diarrhea for such a prolonged periodOf time.? It is been on and off since December |

| I'm sure you have had stool samples checked - but just in case - we took in an 8 month old toy poodle rescue last year. We battled diarrhea and vomiting for months. She would do fine for a few weeks and then it would come back. She was treated for Giardia three times. After the third time, no vomiting or diarrhea for several months. Crossing fingers and hoping its gone for good this time! Diana |

| I would still have your baby checked for pancreatitis as it is so prevalent in Yorkies. My dogs got tired of ground chicken and rice and now eat lean ground turkey and noodles. They also get Hills ID or Royal Canine as a side dish. Also, I was reading the posts about the oral medication for ringworm and just a note: Five hours after giving my dog his first dose of Lamisil (oral medication for ringworm) he began to have seizures which stopped after two injections of midazolam (like valium). He hasn't had another episode. Just a warning that the drug is not only toxic to the liver but can cause other problems. The dose my dog got was ¼ of an adult dose (which is 250mg) and he's 5#. It's not ever given to children under age 4. My dog is improving quite well with a medicated shampoo I use twice a week and some topical TrizChlor 4 pads. Good luck with your little one. |

| Thank you. Yes. I think it had alot to do with the Metrocanazole oral meds she was on , but I cant be sure. The ringworm is long gone, but the diarhhea remains. I feel lost. Even home cooked /boiled chicken gives her diarhhea. I dont know what to do for her. The above post about pancreatitis really frightens me. My vet has her on Flagyl (antibiotic) for the next 10 days. If that doesnt work , he will run blood tests. She was on Flagyl once before and it didnt help at all. so scared. |

| I am so sorry if I scared you about the pancreatitis. I was only trying to alert you to a possible cause for the diarrhea that if caught early can be easily treated. I know how frightening it is when your baby is hurting and nothing you do seems to help. There are many people on this site with far more knowledge and experience than I so I will stay quiet and pray that all goes well for you. |

Metronidazole (which I assume is what you meant) is the generic for Flagyl. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of diarrhea. Diana | |

| Ok..then I am saying it completely wrong. She WAS on an oral antifungal. aftr that, her b owels were never the same. NOW she is on Flagly for the diarhhea. she is also on probiotics. I just think that her Maiin diet might be wrong. She is eating 3 tines a day. Each time she gets 2 tbs dry Blue puppy food and 2 teaspoons wellness canned puppy food. And 1 tablespoon of chopped meat or chicken home cooked. |
