| How much cooked meat with kibble? Is there anyone out there who is cooking chicken breasts and lean ground beef to add with kibble who can tell me how much kibble to cut back? I weighed my pups today and it seems they have both gained a couple pounds this winter. They won't eat the kibble without adding the cooked meat or a cooked egg so I need to figure out how much to cut back the kibble to allow for the extra calories in the meat. |

| I am trying to get Buster to loose the weight. I use a kitchen scale and weigh out the food separately and a baby scale to weigh Buster to see how the amount effects his weight. I cut back on the kibble until I see him dropping weight.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I bought a postal scale and weigh them about once a month. If they're gaining, I cut back on food. If they're losing, I add more. For my 5 pound, 5-year-old girl, I give 12 pieces of kibble and one teaspoon of home-cooked (either meat, chicken or fish mixed with potatoes, veggies and Dr. Pitcairn's magic powder) twice a day. For my 10-pound male, I give 24 pieces of kibble and one tablespoon of homecooked twice a day. They also get a lot of treats during the day, so I've cut down on food because of that. Now, if they gain, I cut back on treats. I don't want to cut back on food any more.

| Thanks Mike. I am going to start weighing them more often. Wallee now weighs 14lb although he still has a very definite waist. He was always very tough to feed and I think he has finally gotten to the point where he is eating better. (Or I have figured out what works). For Summer, I honestly don't know what to think. When I got her, she was still nursing puppies and I was told that the puppies were taking everything from her. Since then I have had her spayed and she has gained 1.6lb. I don't see her waist like I do Wallee's so I think perhaps a pound. I am cutting back treats for sure and I have ground the beef even finer so it is easier to measure just enough to flavor the kibble. |

| I also feed twice a day. They have a treat ball that holds 1/8 of a cup that they sometimes munch on at night but only when they have been very active. |
