| Allergies GI issues or Rabies shot reaction?? My Yorkie pup just got his first rabies and last set of boosters and deworming on Monday. It is now Friday. His symptoms started on Wednesday with diarreah (only once)..The next day (yesterday), he started scratchy his ears and making crying noises..then a couple hours later I heard his stomach growling very loudly and he started dry heaving. This happened all while we were sleeping. So tonight, he threw up twice within 15 minutes of each other. No itchy ears noticed, though. I am just very worried he might be having a reaction to the rabies shot, or the new food I switched him too which is AAFCO approved..but I switched him about a couple weeks ago, so I'm not sure? I looked online, and the most probable cause is allergies? Not sure if I should take my baby to the vet soon or what. Please help new parents

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT . The GI issues could likely be from the deworming product as sometimes these cause upset...so that would be my first suspect. As far as the shots, I never ever get rabies in conjunction with *any* other shots on the same day. So, his system could've been overwhelmed in general with all those shots at once. One thing you could try is going to PetCo and picking up some Benebac to help properly populate his GI flora, it may help a little. Have you smelled his ears...do they smell funny? If so, he may just have a mild ear infection. I hope your precious one feels better soon!

| More than one vac and deworming should not be done on the same day. You can try probiotics as Wyle's Mom recommended.

How old is the baby? How long have you had him? I dont like to see my new puppy owners switching food until the baby is at least 8 months old...give the baby time to settle in to his all new environment, family, schedules....if baby is doing fine on the food the breeder sent him home on, no need to start creating issues where none exist by also having to adapt to a new food source. I would suggest the probiotic mentioned above....the baby has had a plethora of changes and new "assaults" on his little system.....hopefully, this is diet change related. I wouldnt be even THINKING allergies to dog food at this stage of the issue...and if it was from the rabies shot, I would have been expecting reaction much earlier.... Try to keep changes made, limited to one at a time...that way, if there is an adverse reaction to something, it is easy to see what you have just changed to, or added, or left out, or given, etc. | |

| Thanks for all the helpful insight, everyone we are at my in laws house mostly during the week and he likes to the eat(steal) puppy food there (they have a puppy too) and he has no problems. I only wanted to switch his food because his breeder had him on Purina and wanted him to eat better than that. I don't even think he likes his food anymore at home, and when he eats it, he starts having problems again :/ we are going to switch him back to his initial food until he is older, and as far as the ear issues, he may have an infection because there is a not so pleasant odor to them and itching occasionally. Our puppy is going to be 4 months on the Jan 26 and his name is BMO.(bee-moe)
