| Is this a concern? Hello, We got a seven-month-old Yorkie late Christmas Eve night. She instantly has grown attached to my girlfriend and is acting very normal, a lot faster than expected - aside from still being a bit cautious around everyone else. The only issues so far are that she doesn't care to eat or drink much at all: ate twice in two days and drinks minimal water. Also, her potty usage: 12/24: peed once 12/25: pooped twice, no pee 12/26: one very, very long pee in the morning and no poop Today: nothing Like I said, she's not acting sick. Is this a concern or just homesick? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | My guess is that this is normal transitional stress going on. When dogs transition like this, often they drink less, pee less, eat less, poop less...all of that. I'd just keep a close eye like you're already wonderfully doing and assess in a couple weeks. That said, you do want to always take a new doggie into your vet asap just to get her checked out...so a vet visit won't hurt. Congrats too!!! She is a doll!

| Could she be having accidents you can't see? Also it looks like you have a leash hooked to her collar with small dogs you really need to use a harness for hooking to the leash. Generally when you get a new pup you need to have them checked out by your vet pretty quick so I would just ask the vet about it.

| Looks like it could be a harness she is wearing....but I think I would have a vet check done also. Definately could be stress! She's very cute....love her pink coat! |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on the new addition to your life. She is adorable! I agree with everyone above that the transition to a new home can affect eating and potty behavior. She might be stealth peeing. My Teddy did that the first day we had him. He was about the same age as your girl and I could not tell that he was squatting until I saw the yellow in the puddle of water we were standing over on the wet street. He was shy about doing his business in front of us. I also agree with Ann about seeing the vet for a wellness check. Always a good idea when bringing home a new dog, and great for establishing a relationship with a vets office.

| One more thought: when you see her go potty, praise her like she just performed the best trick and give her a little food reward, like a piece of kibble. That will help her feel comfortable if she is shy.

| Hi welcome to Yorkietalk Your furbaby is a cutie. I agree with the other posters that it might be stress from going somewhere new. What's her name?

Thank you. She has been peeing regularly now but isn't pooping as much as she should yet; but she is making progress. We have a vet appointment scheduled this week. | |
