| Won't stop scratching?! This all starting Thursday night... My husband and I noticed that he wouldn't stop scratching his chest, his hind area, and wouldn't stop licking his scrotum. We didn't really think it was something serious...until we finally went to bed. He didn't sleep at all and continued to scratch and lick his scrotum. By this point I'm worried cause I have no idea what's going on! I decide to look at his scrotum to see what the itching is all about and I notice that it's partially black, which is not his normal color. Couple hours later I look again and it's still black and this time a bit swollen, I'm assuming from all the licking? I don't really know what's going on or what could have caused this? Only thing that comes to mind is that he got his booster shots last Saturday (rabies & bordatella on the same visit)... Is it possible that he's now showing side effects??? He also has this bad habit where he'll be sneaky and snatch left overs from my husbands plate whenever he eats on the couch, and he'll run off with it and eat it. Last night he happen to snatch a piece of tamale, a small piece, from his plate... Could this have caused an allergic reaction? Like I said he scratched all last night (Thursday night) and all throughout the middle of the night and just now at 4am (Friday) has finally relaxed and gone to bed. If he wakes up and is no longer itchy should I still take him in to the vet? Has anything like this ever happened to anyone? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | How old is he and is he not neutered? Yeah, I'd be concerned and would probably get to the vet, esp bc there is possibly swelling...you don't want blood supply cut off anywhere.

| He is 14 months and is not neutered. The thought of him going through That kind of procedure complete scares me, I feel like he's too small (4.7lbs). I am very careful with King. The only time he steps outside is when we go on short walks, when he uses the potty, and he'll play in the backyard under my supervision. I never bring him around other dogs and that's because he's scared of ALL dogs. He's even scared of females and that's another reason why I don't bring him around females PERIOD. I will be taking him to the vet today! I hope this is just an allergic reaction that will pass immediately once he gets some medication. |

On the neutering, both my Marcel and Pfeiffer were only 3lbs when they were fixed, and they both did just perfect! I know it's scary, I truly get it as I have fears too - but as long as you do the pre-surg bloodwork, everything should go great.
