| Please Help! Treatment of Periodontal Disease Despite yearly vet professional cleanings since he was 3 years old and almost daily tooth brusing and use of multiple dental products and bully sticks.. my Biggie Smalls lost all front and bottom teeth on Wednesday. Hubby and I were totally surprised. He had 2 bottom teeth extracted 2 years ago during dental cleaning and last year during his dental cleaning he had none removed. My vet says we are doing all we can for Biggie and that the disease is hereditary. Biggie is 7 years old. Has anyone dealt with a Yorkie with periodontal disease? Just wondering what other treatment options we have and if we can do anything to slow down the disease. My vet did not offer and options other than continued home treatment. At this point I am beyond trying to save his teeth..I just don't want the disease to damage his organs. |

| You're doing all you can. Yes, it's genetics! My Winston is only 3 and has lost 10 teeth yet has had four dentals in his lifetime. I'm using the petsmile toothpaste for him and healthy mouth water additive. Those products are VOHC accepted. I'm keeping ahead of any tartar forming, but he had his dental 3 months ago and will need dentals in the future.
