Check this one out. best so far that I've found with RC. And good size for the price I think.

RC was one of the few dry food kibble makers I liked and trusted with my dog's health. I feel they have broken that trust by changing to a cheaper, lower quality protein source, so I will no longer be buying their products. I just wrote them and stated the same.
Depending on the placement in the ingredient list, I 100% agree. RC does have additional offerings with different ingredient lists and guaranteed analysis but there are so many other brands out there that appear to be better, especially for the price. I hope you find what works best!

Royal Canin Mini Special Dry Dog Food, 17-lb bag
I like to see the chicken meal as the first ingredient because that is a more concentrated meat based protein level. The rice is split, 3 ways?, but better than the RC Yorkie formula! Thanks!

Chicken meal, chicken, brown rice, brewers rice, chicken fat, corn gluten meal, dried egg powder, dried beet pulp (sugar removed), natural chicken flavor, dried brewers yeast, brewers rice flour, anchovy oil, soya oil, fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), potassium chloride, flax seed, sodium tripolyphosphate, choline chloride, salt, Vitamins [DL-alpha tocopherol acetate (source of vitamin E), L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), biotin, D-calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), niacin supplement, vitamin A acetate, vitamin D3 supplement, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), vitamin B12 supplement, folic acid, riboflavin supplement (vitamin B2)], salmon meal, marigold extract (Tagetes erecta L.), Trace Minerals [zinc proteinate, zinc oxide, ferrous sulfate, copper proteinate, copper sulfate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, sodium selenite, calcium iodate], L-carnitine, preserved with natural mixed tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), rosemary extract, and citric acid.

MINI Special? / MINI (dogs from 9 ? 22 lb) / Size Health Nutrition / Dog Products / Products / Products / Home Royal Canin USA - Royal Canin

Pulled this off of RC's site. The updated ingredient list doesn't match the one at Petsmart. This is for RC's Mini-Special kibble.

That's too bad, they new ingrediants aren't as good as the old.

Before, the first two ingredients were a quality protein then came a quality carbohydrate, brown rice. Now the carbohydrate is brewers rice, and it's a by product with little nutritional value, it has calories, that's about it.

I'm wondering if the sudden downgrading of RC's foods has anything to do with the fact that in April of this year Mars spent 2.9 billion dollars and bought Procter and Gambles, IAMS, Eukanuba and Natura. That's a lot of money. Financial Services Industry News.Net | Industries News.Net | Global industry news site

After my pup developed diarrhea after being on RC, I will not buy dry RC again. He does ok on the canned GI RC. Funny thing is he was on RC since he was able to eat with his original owners. I got him at 3 months and he did ok for 2 months then developed diarrhea. I think it had something to do with the composition of the RC. Must be something new because he never had a weak stomach before. We have now transitioned successfully to Hills GI but I'm thinking he may be able to go on regular Hills.

Have you seen a vet about this? I doubt if the RC gave your dog diarrhea, your dog may have some type of problem where he has to have very low fat or something like that. My son's dog had to go on Hills GI after he was diagnosed with pancreatitis. They can develop problems overnight. While I don't think the new Royal Canin is a great food choice, especially for the money, I don't think it will make dogs sick, although some dogs might be sensitive to any dog food's ingredients.

Hi everyone!

My name is Ashley Harris, and I am a nutritionist with Royal Canin Canada.

I noticed there were a few questions around Royal Canin formulas, our ingredients or nutrients in general and wanted to offer my support to anyone interested.

I didn't want to sidetrack the current conversation you have going on in this thread, so I opened a new thread called http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...questions.html

Take a wander over there, even just to say hi, and feel free to post any questions you might have for me.

Have a great day!
Ashley

Hello Ashley!! Judy Wright here....devoted, loyal, and VERY long time member of the RC family....since 1978. I am thrilled you have found your way here....I have been in communication with my rep as well as "corporate" regarding the changes y'all have made in the formulas, and information direct "from the horses mouth" is most welcome! I believe I have communicated with you personally on several occasions as well. I personally will not "jump ship" as RC has served me and my dogs very well for many years, as long as I do not see any deterioration in my dog's conditioning, which is something I do not expect to happen! I do feed the Adult Mini, which has apparently not rearranged the order of the ingredients listed on the label....this change in the ingredient label is of grave concern for many people, and I am NOT a dog food nutritionist, so I can not adequately defend your decisions to make these changes! Believe me, I have tried!....while everyone has their own favorite brand of dog food, for whatever reasons, I am very impressed to see the arrival and active participation of someone actually appearing from the company.....I do not believe that has ever been done by any other of the brands that have been criticized or questioned on here. Great to see RC is actually watching and listening to what consumers are saying about their product! I have tried to make it evident that RC is indeed listening to consumers. Welcome Ashley....I do hope people that have concerns will contact you so you can answer questions and perhaps alleviate concerns some may have. (My major concern about RC is why cant I get your fabulous puppy milk formula here in the US to use in my tube feedings when necessary for supplemental feeding for puppies that need this extra attention.....I have contacted RC about this for several years.....even asked if I could "smuggle" the milk in from Canada!! I understand why the milk is not produced here....just wish I could get RC to provide me access to some!!)

Yeah, been to the vet umpteen times about this. My regular vet, who I don't get to see all the time thought it was the RC. We've had all kinds of tests. I think his stomach is sensitive to the RC. I've even been giving him back treats again and he's doing quite well with treats and Hills.

If you transition over to regular Hills, let us know how that goes.. Sounds like that's info that could always help someone that needs to find a new food.

LOL My head is spinning! LOL IDK if it's related.... anything is possible! My guess would be that more time would have been needed to make changes like what we are noticing though.

Being an informed customer, whether loyal or fleeting, is a good policy regardless of brand! There is so much to choose from, there's really no reason to settle for something that doesn't give you the warm and fuzzies.

As soon as I get towards the end of this bag of Hills GI I'll try regular Hills. It'd be nice to not have to bring a script with me every time I go to buy dog food. Hopefully regular hills has smaller kibble because he has a slight bit of trouble eating the bigger bits.

Have you looked into the hills ideal balance small breed? I believe Ladyjane feeds that with good results. She might be able to speak as to kibble size.

No, I haven't yet. Just bought a $30+ dollar bag of Hills gastrointestinal and I think it'll take him a while to finish it. I'm just happy he can eat without having diarrhea. Soon as that bag gets low I'll start to mix to incorporate a different type of Hills. I'll look into ideal balance for small breed. Thanks.
