| Confused about collapsing trachea... I am confused on this- Can a yorkie get a collapsing trachea from wearing a collar, or is it hereditary or can it happen both ways? Thanks. |

| problem I think it can be caused in both ways...like bad knees. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I believe that can be both too. They may have a weakness there and any pressure like a collar can make it worse.

| Collapsed Trachea Hi Ciscos Mom, My 3 year old Yorkie Chelsie has collapsed trachea. She had the stent surgery this summer...it's been a bit of a nightmare. (You can probably find posts from August 2005 regarding her surgery) But to answer your question, just my opinion, I think it is hereditary. Dogs with collapsed trachea have very weak cartilage to begin with. That would come from their parents~ My dog never wore a collar, I think any kind of impact to their cartilage, if it is weak would be bad. Like putting them under for a spay or teeth cleaning... | Collar? I just purchased a little girl yorkie and I will be able to pick her up the first week of March. The breeder suggested a harness and not a collar. I am fine with the harness and found a nice one on the interent...but can the dogs wear collars for identification purposes only. I wouldn't hook the leash to it...but I want to have her tags on. Does size of the Yorkie matter...she is expected to be 5-7 lbs. Any help would be great!!! |
