| My Yorkie is SUPER MASSIVE!!!! 5 years ago my beloved Tea Cup weighed in at 16ozs when I first got her. She always ate what she was supposed to & grew to her estimated size of 3.5lbs. 2 years ago I couldn't keep her so my mate's parents agreed to keep her while we lived there. Since living with them my poor itty bitty dog has went from 3.5lbs to almost 9lbs plus!!! I am SO SAD NOW for her as she waddles vs prances, has an extremely bloated swollen tummy & the fat is extended over her ribcage. I am watching her for the next couple of months while they travel the United States I was given 24 cans of Wet Food, Non Grain dry dog food & a massive Sam's Club bag of "Beggin Strips" that are packed full of super nasty things that a dog this little SHOULD NOT be eating. As they gave me the instructions I stood there FLABBERGASTED & EYES WERE WIDE OPEN!!!! I was totally having a OMFG MY POOR PUPPY moment. I immediately contacted my mate & he said that we would trim her down in the months that she lived with us as our little daughter again & he would tell his parents to STOP table feeding her, adhere to her clean diet & WALK HER or they could NOT have her back as when he seen her at our house, he too was very sad for her as he remembers first meeting her itty bitty fit in your hand stature. While I had her we walked anywhere from 5-10 miles per day *when she got tired I put her on me & walked with her* and ONLY fed her gourmet custom made Veggie treats from dog Boutiques & fed her 1/4 a cup of tiny childsize yogurt cup twice a day. I tried to feed her JUST the dry food today & she gave me a disapproving sniff & refused to even eat it. I am so sooo grateful for them taking & loving my dog but it seems like they don't understand. I don't want to be a Blue Meanie as she is used a Emotional Support dog to mate's father who is suffering from extreme PTSD from being in the Vietnam War being made to kill babies & their Mothers and the Hospital VA REFUSES to help him. I NEED HELP/ADVICE & I AM SO SAD!!! |

| She obviously needs to loose weight. She was full grown when you gave her to them, correct? Try maybe keeping her kibble out in a small serving size. If she refuses to eat it leave her alone and don't force her to eat it. She will eventually get hungry enough and eat it. Since she is supposed to be under five pounds look at the feeding directions for a dog 5-10 pound dog. She should be eating about half of that. I send prayers to your baby, hopefully she will lose the weight fast.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. You are doing a very good thing to help this dog lose weight. Try to talk to your mate's parents about the health implications. All of the extra weight is not good for the legs, the trachea, and vital organs like heart and lungs. Do you have a photo to share? What is her name? You can add enticements to her dry food that are low in fat and calories. Green beans and steamed plain chicken breast. Chicken will also boost metabolism. I would hold all of the treats, including the yogurt. How was she eating 1/4 cup of yogurt twice a day when she was so small? My big boys, 9+ pounds, can't do that.

| You poor thing....I know all too well about the PTSD from that horrible war....my cousin also returned in a terrible emotional mess, having seen babies and children sent into the Americans camps, with explosives strapped to their little bodies, that detonated when the child reached the middle of our troops....I can not imagine the horror of it all.....but my cousin had also gotten help with a therapy dog....but it did not come through the VA....my cousin is deceased now or I would ask him where he got his dog.....I would not be giving my precious little dog back, but I would instead help them find a therapy dog. There are organizations that specifically do that......good luck to you, and your baby girl pup....and the Viet Nam vet, whose service to his country is much appreciated by many of us. There is indeed help out there for him! |

| I went through this with my parents, they started giving my baby table scraps and he went from 10 pounds to 13 pounds. Also it eventually lead him to getting pancreatitis which almost killed him. I know its hard for some people to resist giving these little guys what ever they want but you have to watch it. Tell him there are treats called fruitables that are made with fruit. Also talk to him about measuring the food. If she gets a lot of treats she gets less food. I have been doing this for a month plus longer walks and he has lost a pound. I know it can be hard especially with his background but he has to know, what he is doing could kill her. Dogs can get diabetes, high blood pressure, and have heart problems from being overweight.

| I also wonder if a vet might recommend a food to help her when trying to lose the weight. Food and exercise combination should help get the extra pounds off. She HAS to be completely miserable! Poor baby. Glad you are trying to help her out.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Hello and welcome. It is good that you are trying to get her to loose weight. I have a little guy and i can just imagine. . . I do not give any table scraps and give only a few treats including Cocotherapy coconut chips. A healthly alternative

YT Addict | Yeah my husband undermines my yorkie who is six. He was 10.5 lbs two years ago and is now up to 14.5 lbs because of table scraps. I keep mine on a strict balanced diet and don't give them any people food. I had a yorkie that I had to cook for eight years and she passed because my ex was giving her turkey skin at thanksgiving. It overloaded her system and her kidneys shut down. Her cholestral was over 400 when she passed. I just go a puppy and I have warned him to not feed this pup anything. I won't have someone else undermine my hard work to keep them at a healthy weight so they will live a long healthy life. Good luck |
