| First RMB meal tonight.. We have a new 11 month old baby He weighs about 5 lbs, and I am about to give him his first RMB meal for his dinner Now, just to be clear, I have been raw feeding a 'prey-model' type diet for many many years, but.. only to much bigger dogs. I have helped many people switch their dogs to raw, held lots of hands through it, in person, or on the phone, Skype, etc.. Faced with this little tiny guy, I am the one full of trepidation He has been fed what I call 'cr*ap-in-a-bag' until we picked him up Monday night. With all my other dogs(St.Poos), I never even gave it a thought, just tossed whatever food was sent with them, and gave them a chicken wing. Sooo, I'll be the one hovering like a helicopter-mom tonight.. Wish me luck, y'all |

| You won't be helping me switch to your method of feeding. You can feed your pup whatever you want and rave about it; but please refrain from calling the food that I and many other people feed their pups " **** in a bag" . Your words are offensive. Wishing you and your puppy well.

| LadyJane, I did not mean to offend anyone, truly. What I call 'c*ap-in-a-bag' is when people buy whatever they can find the very cheapest. Generic junk. There are many many high quality foods that come in a bag. This was not one of them. I am sure that you feed your dog/s very well indeed. |

| I am not familiar with this type of diet for a dog. Are you feeding your pets a diet similar to a paleo or raw diet that humans eat? Could you tell me something about it? I am curious because I had always been told that the best diet for these small dogs was dry food as it prevents a lot of tooth / gum related problems. Is there a link you could share concerning this? Thanks! |

Raw food is not something I'd ever be comfortable with personally. I have seen a lot of scary things on the internet that people spout as 'normal' while raw feeding that... just aren't. So I advise caution. IF you really want to feed raw, I'd probably recommend a pre-made that doesn't involve hard bones or raw meaty bones that have a pretty high potential to break teeth.

| ladyjane, I meant no offense, nor was I criticizing you, or anyone else. The food that I refer to as "cr*p-in-a-bag" is the lowest quality generic dollar store product, purchased because it is the cheapest thing out there. There are many high quality kibbles, this was not one of them. If I offended you, or anyone else, I am sorry. I was not recruiting or campaigning for a particular way of feeding, merely expressing my anxiety regarding feeding such a small dog. I felt that perhaps there was someone else here who may have exerienced the same thing in the past. A way to feel a sense of support through shared experience, perhaps. I am very new here, and have no wish to step on toes, or offend anyone. I am here looking for a bit of community, and to share my joy and pleasure in my little boy. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT! How did it go for your kiddo? I feed raw too, but I do pre-made.

Also thank you for your input about about using caution concerning the raw diet. Can you please tell me what this is exactly? I would like to know a little more about it. Thank you again, for your kind reply. | |

| Wylie's Mom, it went just fine! He did great. I gave him a whole chicken wing last night, and it did not take him long at all to figure out what to do with it. This morning he ate some chuck roast, and another wing tonight. That instinct is pretty powerful. Rinnah, I will look through my old files and find you some links regarding raw feeding. I think if you google BARF diet (biologically appropriate raw food or bones and raw food, depending on who you talk to), there is a lot out there. You all have a great night, and snuggle up those fur babies |
