| Food choices Hello, I have two Yorkies one is about a year old and my newest addition is less than 3 months, I’ve been feeding them both Royal Canin. I was told by the vet that is great food so I just listened. However I noticed that Toby which is the oldest has been eating the dirt out of the house plans and then I’ve noticed Koko which is the new puppy is eating dirt when I walk her. I heard that when they eat dirt that means that they are lacking vitamins or minerals or something like that. So I was wondering if is normal that they are eating dirt or should I try to change their food and if so what are some suggestions as good food for them. Thank you |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I have never used RC, but I am confident that the food has plenty of vitamins and minerals. Many Yorkie Talk members' dogs eat RC and do very well on it. As for eating dirt, I believe Yorkies will eat just about anything. Are they really eating it, or just licking and tasting it? There might be something in the dirt that is attracting them.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and WELCOME to YT ! RC is a nutritionally complete food, so I kind of doubt they're deficient anywhere. Some dogs tend to want to eat almost anything. So I don't know why they'd be eating the dirt other than something in it must smell good...?

| Why don't you do a little research and find them a new food, if you have lost faith in this one. Look for something with whole ingredients. See if changing the foods will stop the dirt eating. I'm currently dog sitting my friend's two chinese cresteds and they try to eat everything when I walk them, it's a battle but I think I'm winning it. Just don't let them eat the dirt if you can. |
