| Red round circle on belly My little boy, who is one year old, has a red circle on his belly. It is about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and resembles a sore as if a car cigarette lighter were placed there. He is not bothered by it, it isn't scaly and no evidence of a bite(like a tick in the center). It seems to have developed overnight and it was rainy yesterday morning but cleared up later( maybe black fly bite?). We called the vet who said to watch it. Any ideas? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If it's a ring -- it could very well be ringworm, which is fungal and highly contagious. To diagnose and treat this, the vet has to do a skin scraping and then grow that sample out in a culture for 10-14 days. If it's confirmed, you then treat w/ prescription medicine. Btw, welcome to YT!

Welcome to YT.......If that were my baby, he would have been to the vet, I am very paranoid when I see abnormal things on my babies or they are not behaving in their normal manner, but that's just me. I know you will do what is the best for your lil boy.

| I thought about ringworm. The vet doesn't seem to think it is that but I am definitely going to watch for any progression. Thanks! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Just so you, it may not really "progress" at all...ringworm can stay looking the same for a very long time. Why didn't the vet just test for it, I wonder, it would've been so simple...?

| No, It is basically "empty" in the middle, only a red rim. |

| Awww your poor baby. Welcome to YT. It does look suspicious of ringworm. Might be worth a visit to your vet. I'd hate to see it become a chronic problem as it can get on the surfaces of your home and spread from pets to humans. Good luck, keep us posted.
