| Skin issues:flaking, crusty, itching + Grooming your yorkie Hi y'all,..I just had to shave mine of 5yrs to the skin which I normally do when summer starts but had to cause his skin is really bad right now. I believe it had to do with the bed bugs since I got some on my legs. After the bath, the skin was really improved but a week later the odor is still there so I suspect I may have to do another epsom salt/medicated shampoo soak maybe in store this week. That men's Remington beard trimmer $20 from Amazon just glided through his fur like butter so that part of the grooming for me was a breeze. It can handle my maltese thicker matted fur as well better than any other expensive Andis or Oster that were made for grooming ironic as that may sound it's the truth. I went through a slew of them until a simple cordless light trimmer came along. |

| And could somebody who also shaves their yorkie close like that please tell me if theirs scuttles around after being groomed and sits down like he got ants in his pants or something then runs around some more like he's freaked out that most of his/her hair is gone? Mine does this for days and I can't figure out why he's doing this. Last edited by apple718; 04-30-2014 at 02:32 PM. |

| Looks like possibly a bacterial skin infection... have a vet look at it. And yes, they do have a head problem when all their hair is gone! Embarrassment, maybe itchiness from the short hair sticking them... just something they need to adjust to...

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | The red splotchy areas look like pyoderma to me...this is a staph intermedius infection of the skin. To treat it, you must do antibiotics from the vet. To diagnose, the vet would just need to do a quick skin scraping and look at it under scope. I would get your kiddo in asap before it gets worse.

| I agree with the others. Get the vet to examine your little guy. Looks very uncomfortable. Maybe meds can clear it up quickly.

| The red splotches were from bed bugs. I got them zig zag pattern on my legs the exact same time he got it. I even saw a few of them, nasty buggers & will make you itch like you have poison ivy. Well after the soak with epsom salt & medicated shampoo and spray with according to many the best bed bug spray that's 100% safe to human & pets we're both ok now. I spent literally days researching and reading reviews on the net and saw that it was the best option & safe which other ones could not do. It's called Best Yet and a bottle is $30 but it is very effective not with just bed bugs but just about every flea, ticks, mites, larvae & any nasty insects known to man. | sprinkle diatomaceous earth on the bed. Wash the dog down first with a dilution of organic apple cider vinegar and distilled water and try applying colloidal silver all over the skin, also feed some coconut oil |

| Just FYI, if you shave that close, it can cause irritation. Plus she should not go out in the sun w/out a thin shirt bc she can get sunburn.
