| small red vein on puppy's eye My vet said that she probably got it while biting her chewtoy (she's teething so she bites her toy pretty hard) or barking since there were no visible injuries on her eye nor was it irritated/watery, and that as long as it doesn't become a spot or more show up, I shouldn't worry about it since it will go away on its own. Has anyone else had experiences with this? I trust my vet but I'd rather hear more opinions before taking her to a vet that specializes in eye injuries. | Is the red vein visible in the white part or the dark part of the eye? If in the white part, it could just be an irritation that should go away quickly. If it is a prominent vein that does not go away, I would have a specialist take a look at it. Keep in mind that not all eye injuries are visible with regular exam. Max has had corneal scratches that only a dye test revealed. Corneal ulcers can be detected if you know what you are looking for. It's like the very thin outer layer of a grape is peeled off. Usually the eye will water, or the dog will hold the lid closed and be sensitive to bright light -- but not always. Watch for any signs of her wanting to paw at it or rub her face.

| It's only in the white part, and she hasn't tried to scratch/rub her face since her first grooming session. I wonder if she irrittated her eyes while doing that a week ago, though I've been keeping a really close eye on her and it wasn't until today that I noticed that red vein. Anyway, thanks for the extra information. If anything more shows up I'll take her with the specialist. |

| Sounds like she is okay. Max's eyes will get 'bloodshot' if there is hair in his eye. As soon as I remove the hair, the irritation goes away in seconds.
