| They do get some water from moistened food, but not enough. You might try home made chicken broth with NO ADDED SALT and NO ONIONS. I cut up a 5 pound chicken and boil it in a quart or two of water--enough to cover it. You can add some chopped carrots and celery for flavor, but no salt or onions. Boil it covered for an hour and a half, strain off the broth, refrigerate it, and then skim off the fat after it's solidified. If you remove the skin and bones from the chicken, you can either use it in your own recipes, or feed small pieces mixed in with food to your dog. Freeze the broth that you won't be using within the next couple of days so it doesn't spoil. Some people put the broth in ice cube trays to freeze it and add a cube of the frozen broth to the water bowl to encourage the dog to drink. |

| Try taking her to her water placed an upturned lid or a saucer - just anything to get her drinking on her own right now and later you can segue to a bowl. Some tiny dogs are intimidated by food and water bowls.

| Pedialyte is safe to give--it has a very small amount of sugar in it, and some electrolytes. Use the non-flavored regular Pedialyte. My Bella wouldn't drink it (she probably didn't like the taste), but maybe your dog will. |

| My Tibbe won't drink it either - have to syringe it in the side of his mouth. He loves sugar-water though and will sometimes drink that.

| I tasted the Pedialyte before giving it to Bella and I didn't like the taste either. It didn't taste sweet enough, and it tastes a little salty, kind of like dilute Gator-Ade. My vet said it's safe to give Gator-Ade as well, but you have to keep in mind that it has a much higher sugar content, so it's for short term use only. |

| Some dogs drink more water than others. If she is small she may be getting enough water in her food. I have never had to give my dogs things to encourage them to drink unless they were old and/or very ill.

Since you're adding water to her food, she may be getting her hydration needs met...especially if she is very tiny. When dogs are thirsty, they will drink...so try not to worry too terribly much.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I agree with what Ann and LadyJane said. But it could also be that she might be one of those pups who doesn't like water bowls. My mom has one that will only drink out of the water bottles that they lick.

| If you are giving her tap water and live in the city could it be that she smells chlorine in it? Have you tried bottled water?
