| The vet put Charlie on a diet... So I guess Charlies a little fatty. I took him to the vet today (his knee seemed to be bothering him again ). Well the good news is, his back knees don't seem to have progressed too much based on the examination the vet gave him, but he said he needs to lose about 2lbs. He's at 14lbs right now and the DR said we need to bring him down to 12, especially because of his knees... That we need to be extra careful about his weight not getting out of control so we can keep his knees under control. So I ordered some special food the Dr recommended and they will call me when they have it in a couple days. It's Royal Canine, but forgot which one. The dr said that kind isn't available in stores though... but it should help him drop some weight. So I guess I have to be not as generous in the table scraps and snacks.... Charlie loves to eat so I'm going to feel bad.. But his health is more important. The vet also gave him some pain meds for his knees so he can take them until they feel better and said to keep an eye on him, but that he didn't think he would need anything further at this time. |

| So hard to tell a pup no when they just don't understand sorry Charlie! Good thing though that you are there to help him through and keep him safe and healthy, he's a lucky boy

Thanks. I love my little man. I just hope the food they are going to give him at least taste good to him. If not, I am sure he will adjust to it.

| Bless his heart!! I dont know how much they told you to feed of the RC, but if he is still hungry after his portion, my vet said to give green beans......that will help increase his amount and not so much on the calories! |

| IMO the quickest way to cut back is no treats and absolutely nothing from the table. All 3 of mine are in the 11-13 lb range too. Pebbles and Doodlebug each get 1/4 food twice a day. Bogey is my problem with his tricky potty behavior. When he goes out to potty he likes to sit about 25 feet from the back door until I shake the treat jar and in he runs like a rocket ship! So between the 1/4 cup food and all his potty tricks he gained weight and his knee started acting up again. So I cut back his food and gave my husband and kids another talk about too many treats. Now he is getting 18 pieces of kibble and still gets a few potty snacks. This seems to be working really well for him. My point is when you are feeding 1/2 cup of food total each day that should really include any treats you feed too. Royal Canine is a really good food and what I feed too.

Yes, he's been on Royal Canine his whole life. I've been feeding him the Yorkshire Terrier one... The one the vet is putting him on is a little more expensive. I will tell you which one it is as soon as I get it.

| Best wishes for Charlie to reach his goal weight. I know how hard it is to limit the treats. Max lost his extra weight last summer, but put it back on this winter when we missed so many walks. We will be working on this too!

| My friends Yorkie was a few pounds over weight and had LP issues because of it. She got her down 3 pounds had her on 1/4 of a baby aspirin a day for the pain and once the weight was gone her knees never popped out or gave her issues again. I guess sometimes if you look at it, it's common sense. Same would happen with us too. Good luck with your baby |

Yes it does make sense.. I was happy that that is the solution. I was so worried I would get worse news when I went.

| Awww good luck!! I am sure the weight will come right off w/ a bit more exercise and the new food. Jackson is 17lbs and active and only gets 1/2 cup of kibble per day. He gets a bit of wet food with each meals plus I try to account for the treats he sometimes gets during the day. It really doesn't take a lot to feed these little ones.

| I think what I have been doing wrong, is I leave his dry food for him to eat at his free will... I will have to stop doing that and measuring what he eats more. I take him for walks just about everyday. The vet said no rough playing for 3 weeks but leash walks were ok. |

| Fatty?! People, cover your pups ears! Charlie is NOT fat!... Just a little 'fluffy' Yep, same circumstance here. Guinness had LP surgery on both knees and we were told to always keep an eye on his weight. I can't free feed any of my two because both have very healthy appetites. I use a kitchen scale making sure I'm giving the right amount.
