| yorkie seems constipated from Fish oil My Husband got this bright idea to give the dogs fish oil for their fur coat..but the problem is my little 6 month old is now constipated and whincing and whining while trying to poop...It all wadded up on his bum hole and I finally managed to get it all off after being clawed to death...now he is trying to poo but only droplets are coming out and frankly he is walking around like he has a stick up his bum...Now he is sleeping in the corner. Is there anything I can do to relieve the constipation...I will demand my husband stop giving him the fish oil until he is a bit older... I am so mad right now..he gets these lame brained ideas because he had a sheppard when he was a kid and that's what they gave him..Yadda Yadda Yadda....Now I have to deal with the poor dog... any thoughts...tips |

| Generally fish oil is fine to give. Does your puppy eat things he shouldn't? If he is trying to poop and cannot get it out after being cleaned back there a vet visit is required (today).

| warm tub.....and massage him to get him to relax enough to pass it. you could also call your vet when keylo had an issue we gave mineral oil between that and the warm bath it helped her a lot. Just a thought sending many well wishes your lil guy is able to go.

| I would seriously just put a call into your vet. if he gets dehydrated your going in a whole different direction. when keylo came to me she traveled from a southern state was in quarantine in Maine for 5 days and it was horrible to see her have to go and not be able to. She hates baths also but with a soothing voice and getting right in there with them to massage and relax him. that may help it may not but it was just a thought.

| I agree with others above, constipation or poop stuck can be bad enough to warrant a vet visit. Max had a serious case one night that included gas. Looking back, I should have taken him to the ER. He is not a lover of baths, but putting him in the sink with his front paws on the counter helped. Walking, canned plain pumpkin also helped. Teddy also had a bad case of constipation once and we did take him to the ER. I thought he had injured his back it was so bad. The exciting car ride there made him want to poop once we arrived. Still took him overnight to fully recover. A little fish oil can be good, but it is easy to overdo it. Too much of the Omegas not adequately balanced by Vit E can cause other serious problems.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oils don't normally cause constipation; if anything, they cause diarrhea. Perhaps your kiddo ate something else they shouldn't have, maybe? I hope he is feeling better. Canned pumpkin can help, next time. Also, extra hydration (try sweetening the water, or give some low-salt broth). When/if it gets truly impacted, you really do want to go to the vet bc of the dangers a true impaction can cause.

| Two days ago you posted here http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ike-crazy.html about red ears and legs. Some of these same members said allergic reaction and suggested she needed another vet visit. Instead you were going to give FISH OIL. Now you cone back to say your solution of fish oil is causing constipation problems. Again, we suggest a vet visit. Your reply is you're going to wait it out for a couple days. So why exactly are you asking advice if you are not willing to visit your vet? I'm not even sure if you have one or two yorkies that should be seen by your vet. So my suggestion would be the same as it was 2 days ago....... GO.....TO......THE......VET!
