| Vomiting! Lexi has been vomiting all day. It started around 10am this morning. She's thrown up about 8 times (purely bile at this point). I've called the vet and he is "unconcerned at this time". I have had great confidence in this vet but I am concerned that he is "unconcerned" about dehydration, low blood sugar, etc. His advice is to take away her food for 12 hours to let her stomach rest. I've tried giving her Nutrical, and even the water/salt/sugar mixture that I found suggested in a post when I searched the forum for "vomiting". She's not holding anything down. Is there anything else I can do? I asked him about Pepto Bismol and he said that it wouldn't do anything at this point and we just had to wait it out. He wants to see how she does overnight. That seems like a lifetime away for me when my baby is sick!!! Up until an hour ago, she wanted to play with her toys. Now she just wants to be alone. She's NEVER wanted to be anywhere but with ME before! Any advice?

| I'm so sorry your baby is sick. Your vet may be right, but I wouldn't take any chances(everyone makes mistakes) I would find an animal hospital or atleast insist he see's her today.

| Is she running a fever? Is she drinking/peeing? I do hope she feels better soon and Id just keep close contact with your vet. If you see no improvement in her by am I would definatley bring her into the vet, maybe even tonight?? She looks real tiny in her avator picture so I am assuming she is and I know how fast these little one's dehydrate. Keep us posted and Schatzie sends Lexi puppy hugs!

| Stomach Flu My dog had the stomach flu a couple of weeks ago, and my vet told me the same thing, not to give food for 24 hours. Which was hard for me to see my puppy go through that. But he did prescribe to give him some pepto-bismol and some medicine for the nausea. The dose might be differrent depending on the size/weight of dog. Anyway, the pepto worked, and my puppy started eating the next day. |

| She's peeing okay. No, she's not drinking nor does she have diarrhea. I have never taken a dog's temp but assume it's done rectally, lol. What is a normal temp for a puppy? Other than vomiting (gross!) she seems almost normal. She was barking out the window at the kids outside for about 10 mins., came downstairs and vomited again!!! We took her to my mother-in-law's last night. I'm wondering if she picked up something up from the floor...my second thought is that maybe she ate something in the back yard. The neighborhood cats are always killing birds in our backyard. I'm just going to keep an eye on her gums to ensure that they stay pink (which they are right now). I was hoping that someone had another home remedy to settle her stomach. What about babyfood chicken? Or pumpkin? I would like to give her pepto but wonder how much? Anyone??? P.S. She's 8 months old, approx. 14" long and weighs 5 lbs. (may be alittle more because she had some pasta last night - not her first time, but then again maybe a little less due to the vomiting).

| I have read several times that plain boiled chicken (no skin....no seasoning) and plain cooked white rice (again no seasoning) is good for a sensetive tummy but I'm not sure if she would eat it....you could try and see if she wants it!! (When I cooked some I made a good batch and froze several bunches in tiny containers so I could pull out a bit if needed)... I would keep pedialyte or gatorade in her water dish if she were to drink it would be helpful..... Dog temps are rectal and they run a temp higher than ours...like 101 or so...but ask someone who is sure about that fact. maybe some blood work would be helpful....if she did eat something from the floor (or whatever) it may show in the blood if kidneys or liver were being affected. If she is 8 months old and 5 pounds she should be able to tolerate 12-24 hours without eating.....but I would like to see her at least drinking.... But DO WATCH her..... Let us know how she does.... Prayers and puppy licks from Apple and Lil Bit! |

| yorkie vomiting Last time Magellan was sick I fed him plain baked chicken breast and white rice for 24 hours. He was back to his old self the next day. Even with my kids I always wait 24 hours before taking to doc. Sometimes it's something they picked up/ate outside. If within 24 hours your pup is still sick, take him to the vet immediately. Good luck. |

| Check to see if her gums are dry or moist and pink. Our little ones can dehydrate very quickly. Do you have a syringe that you can put fluids into her to keep her hydrated. I too keep pedialyte handy at home. She may very well have eaten something outside. Try to see if she will refuse her favourite treat? Tufty had a very upse tummy one day and was just not himself. So I took a little food and mixed in half a capsule of slippery elm powder and mixed it in a little food (raw meat even on an upset tummy he didn't refuse it). He was back to himself the next day after a good poop but I didn't sleep all night keeping an eye on him. |

| I think that people search for threads relating to an issue that they are dealing with, don't notice the date of the thread, and then make a comment. Then other people see the new comment, see the current date on the new comment, and then think that this is a current issue. I've been hooked in before, myself. See, it just happened again |
