| Evie vomiting her food Hello. I'm new to the Yorkie forum and have a question I'm hoping to get help with: My Evie is 9 1/2 months old and weighs 2 pounds 7 ounces. We have had her since January when she was 7 months old. The lady we got her from feeds her Yorkie's Life's Abundance. We transitioned her to Royal Canin Yorkie puppy food for the first few weeks we had her (mixed the Life's Abundance we got from her other mommy with the Royal Canin). Once she was transitioned over totally to the Royal Canin, she has had no problems (pooping, peeing okay, likes the food, eats when fed, etc.). For the past week to 10 days though, she has vomited quite a few times. Mostly it has been a glob of the her chewed up food, one time it was basically a glob of the whole food pieces (sometimes she has a habit of 'inhaling' each piece of food, rather than chewing it.) A time or two, it was just brown, liquidy type fluid (not the yellow bile stuff that I've seen mentioned on the earlier threads). There is no rhyme or reason as to when/why she vomits. Two times she woke up in the middle of the night and vomited, last night she was lying on my lap on the couch and got sick, and a few other just 'random' times throughout the day/evening. I'm curious what you all may think? I had her spayed on February 20 and she had no troubles after her surgery (they even removed 6 baby teeth, and she was actually eating better {as far as actually chewing her food, rather than swallowing a piece whole}, up until this started. The vet said her bloodwork was fine when she was spayed. Other than the occasional vomiting, she acts fine....still loves to go outside, still chases and plays with my cat, still loves to play fetch with me, still acts happy and loving. Obviously, I will take her to the vet if needed, but would like to get some thoughts first. Thanks so much! Melissa and Evie |

| Could there be something in the food that is causing this? Is it only after she eats? Did it start after changing her food? My Rosie has a very sensitive tummy. Any changes causes her to vomit. Most of the time she is fine but once the vomiting continues we have to go to the vet. I would call my vet and see what he might suggest.

Hi. Thanks for the reply! She has been on the Royal Cannin food "full time" for several weeks before the vomiting started, so I don't think it should be the food? It definitely didn't start when she started eating it. It's never really "after she eats," but there's really no pattern to when it happens either (ie., sometimes in the middle of the night, sometimes in the evening, sometimes in the morning). She hasn't vomited in the last two days, so I'm going to monitor and see if it happens again. If so, I'm going to go to the vet. If it happens again and the vet can't find any obvious reason, I will change her food to see if that helps. Thanks for your help! | |

| Well, I guess I spoke too soon. My husband just called me at work and said he found a little pile of vomit about 6:30 this evening. Evie has not eaten since this morning, so I'm not sure what to make of it. A few minutes ago, she ate her Royal Cannin food with no problems (he said she actually ate very good). She's still not acting like she is sick or anything, still playful, eating good, etc. I will call/take her to the vet tomorrow just to be sure. This is odd, as it just seems to be totally random vomiting episodes. I even thought maybe it was because she is nervous, but that doesn't make sense either, as she's done it when she's been fast asleep during the night, and/or lying on my lap in the evening when there's been no 'activity' to make her hyper/nervous. |

| Oh no. Maybe she needs something to calm her tummy. Or even might have a bug and need an antibiotic. I'm sure the vet will determine what's going on tomorrow. Please let us know.

| Annie had issues after she had her dental/tooth extraction procedure in January. She began vomiting in the middle of the night and at times during the day. I called the vet, they suggested Pepcid AC 1/4 tab (10 mg) twice a day. I also started her on chicken/rice just to get her tummy under control. After posting here, someone suggested that it may be her dog food. So I changed her to Fromm and now everything seems fine. I also cut the Pepcid AC back to nighttime only and so far....knock wood....she is doing fine. Please keep us posted on how your little one is doing. Katheleen |

| Try feeding her just plain boiled chicken for a few days (organic free range) and the juice you boil it in, all cold or room temp of course. Add a probiotic and some slippery elm bark powder, which you can get from a health food store. Put half a capsule of each in with the chicken. See if the vomiting stops, do this for a week or more to get a proper response. It could be her digestive system is slowly having an issue with the food, have a look at the ingredients, not the best. If the vomiting stops, chances are it's the food, but I'd most certainly make sure she is fully hydrated, keep some pedialyte on hand just in case and keep in touch with your vet. |
