| Treat ideas for my dog with no teeth... Prince had most of his teeth pulled out yesterday. He has only one front canines left and a very few back teeth left. I tried to soften some treats tonight for him and he is having trouble eating them. They are freeze dried chicken pieces. It says on the package you can soak them to soften them, but they didn't really soften too much. I think he might have bit his tongue tonight because he was getting too excited. Does anyone have any ideas of treats to feed my old man with no teeth. I feel sooo bad because he is my chewer who is infatuated with dentasticks. He won't be able to eat those anymore...among most other treats he enjoys. Heck...I am probably going to end up giving away most of the dog treats I have left just because I don't feel right giving Ricky a chewie when Prince can't have one I've been feeding him baby food, mixed with his wet food and I am warming it up a little and he's done good eating that...but he loves his treats and is going to be miserable if I can't find something fun for him to eat. |

| My guys love frozen plain green beans as treats. I thaw them so they are really soft.

| I just went and bought some buddy biscuits tonight at Petco and he can eat them when I break them up into little pieces so he doesn't really have to chew much. I made some chicken and rice tonight and the chicken is basically minced into very small pieces that are no bigger than the rice. He was having problems eating it and kept shaking his head. I did manage to successfully feed him some canned food and baby food, so I may mix the baby food in with the chicken and rice and perhaps it will be easier to eat like that. |

| My guys ate The Honest Kitchen for awhile but we stopped...moved onto premade raw food. I always thought to myself that if they ever lose all their teeth when they get older, they can go back to eating THK. It's dehydrated, so they need to grind up the food, no chewing necessary. They just gulp it up. It's nice for older dogs that need to lose weight too bc it has a lot of fruit & plant fiber. Maybe you can try that? They have sample bundles for a limited time: Honest Kitchen Sample Bundles for Dogs, Puppies and Cats | The Honest Kitchen Perfect form is awesome!

| Gerber chicken stix was confirmed to have onion & garlic powder in it. Garlic is beneficial/safe in small amounts but onion is TOXIC in any form.

| Most of the freeze dried meat treats are fairly soft to begin with but when you let them sit in some water for a few minutes they are pretty mushy. I don't usually buy treats that have more than one or two ingredients because then they are basically just filler that you are feeding your pet. |

| Good to know! I have heard of many folks who give them to their dogs. I personally have not tried them. Thanks!

| Canned pumpkin, carrots , broccoli or apple in the blender would all be good treats. Mine all get steamed broccoli often & they love it, you could steam it instead of blending it & it should be soft enough for him to chew. |

| What about baby food? or just puree what you have or soften his food so he does not have to chew it... This past summer when Maggie was 3 month old she developed jaw issues just like people have with TMJ and she would scream when she opened her mouth. Of course we were traveling and on July 4 ER visit. Pain medication and soft food diet so I hand fed her Caesars but now she does not like it. |

| Tibbe can only have a special type of food so sometimes I soften his kibble and give him that for treats. I keep it in the refrigerator to keep it from spoiling after wetting it. Sometimes each piece is so soft I can barely hold it w/out it falling apart but he loves the softened kibble. Other times I bake it or microwave it hard since he has teeth and loves to crunch, too, and he seems to like his "treat" no matter the form it's in. To Tibbe, food from the "treat jar" is special since I make a big deal out of it so he even takes just plain old kibble out of it just as happily.
