| Siezures, renal kidney failure, sterile urine culture Hi, I would like to introduce myself and my 16 1/2 yr old guy named Goliath. He was recently diagnosed with renal kidney failure (levels slightly high) He had a bad infection in his mouth which we cleared up and he is now feeling better. I am cooking him hamburger meat, rice and egg whites which I researched are good for his kidneys (didnt like KD diet food) He has gone almost completely blind and siezures have started. Overall he is in good spirits and eating, walking some and going to the bathroom just fine. I was wondering if anyone has experienced any of these and mostly trying to treat why he is getting siezures. The meds were terrible on him and I took him off. Has anyone heard of DMG liquid for siezures or does anyone know about a sterile urine culture and maybe a bacteria is causing them. I really appreciate reading your post and really love my little guy and I've had so many precious yrs and want to do what is best for him. Gina |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! I am clueless about seizures in older dogs, but I hope you can find a way to keep him comfortable. How often are they happening? And how long do they normally last?

| Hopefully someone will respond who knows more than I. But it sounds like you need to see a vet for his treatment plan. Renal failure usually requires blockers, fluids, & med. If the meds are causing problems, there's a host of other med out there. Medications is the same as w/people. Kd is a good food for senior dogs w/kidney disease. I blend kd w/water for added fluids per my vet. Your pet needs to be under a vet's care. And it's good that your doing research. Good Luck |

| I assumed bc you said 'was recently diagnosed' that you have been to a vet. Just wanted to add that with very mild elevations in kidney function, that it can be from dehydration alone. Make sure he gets plenty of water, add it to his food too. My Peek was diagnosed the same, mild elevations, and after increasing his water intake, his last blood work everything came back normal!
