Yorkie Yakker | coconut oil? I have been wanting to feed my two little girls extra virgin coconut oil due to the health benefits. Does anyone else give their babies coconut oil? If so how much? And does anyone have an opinion on olive oil as well? Stella is 7 lbs and sony is 5 lbs. Thank you so much! |

| I supplement with fish oil now but coconut oil is good stuff. I used to give it to Toki (we used Cocotherapy but Nutiva is a good choice and you can get that more cheaply and also locally at Whole Foods and GNC). When I home cook for her, I like to use a small amount of coconut oil to scrambled her eggs in. It is recommended that you supplement with up to 1 teaspoon of coconut oil per 10 pounds daily. I'd probably aim for 1/4-1/2 tsp for your pups (you might start out giving them a little less than those amounts and increase to the full amount if they tolerate it well) and see how they do with that. It is a fat and can cause weight gain if you aren't mindful of the additional calories. I'm not sure about the olive oil but maybe others here will know more. |

| I don't believe in adding extra fat to diets, it's not necessary. However, if you want to do it, olive oil or coconut oil can be used. Mine like butter also. It depends on your goals and why you're adding the item to the food.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | There are a LOT of people here who use coconut oil. Here is a good thread about how they're using it: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...conut-oil.html

Yorkie Yakker | Thanks so much everyone! I want to give them coconut oil because they have digestive issues (I also give probiotics) and also because it is an anti fungal... last year they got ringworm. It is a healthy fat and helps thyroid function and helps them have energy. Helps with coat health and itching. My sony is so skinny that if it helps her gain a little i'll be happy. I know it really helps me so I wanna share it with my babies! I will start out small amounts and go bigger |

| I give Piper coconut oil in the mornings and fish oil in the evenings. She has a beautiful coat.
