| Puppies all have bump on tummy & red line in eye? I looked at a male yorkie puppy today with his two sisters and the parents were both present. The litter is 9 weeks old today. I noticed all three of them have a little bump about where the umbilical cord would have been, and all three of them have a small but dark red line in the whites of their eyes above the pupil (if you open their eyes wider you can see it). I've asked to speak to the veterinarian who did their exams and first series of vaccinations, and he will also get another exam before he were to come home with me. Just wanted to see if I should be really concerned about either of these? The breeder said that the bump is not a hernia (I am in Italy and don't speak Italian so it was not completely clear what they said it was...but it seemed the vet knew about it and wasn't concerned). I've searched the forums and seen about bumps on the tummy but I thought this was a little different as it is in all 3 puppies of both genders. |

| I think it sounds like an umbilical hernia....these can easily happen when momma is allowed to chew her babies cords....if the tug on the cord too much, too hard, or if the cord is cut too short and mom does excessive licking at the site, it can cause these little unbilical hernias. These can be minor or they can be worse, depending on how much pulling and tugging was done on that cord.....a tiny little one is not considered serious. The red line in the eye I have no idea! |
