Poopies... Hi I am new to Yorkietalk.com. I have had my 13 week old,Tebo, now for about 3 weeks. He seems to be adjusting very well, but I am concerned about his poopies. He goes ALL the time. At least six or seven times a day. Is this normal? Sometimes he even has loose ones that are really mucusy. When i brought him home, the breeder gave me some of the food she was feeding him, and i was mixing it with my IAMS. Now He is just eating mostly IAMS. Also, the breeder told me to put 1 tsp. of sugar cane in his water to help prevent the low blood sugar. In all the research i have been doing. I haven't heard of anyone doing that. If anyone has any suggestions I wouild greatly appreciate it.

What brand of dry are you feeding him? Is the Iams the wet or dry. Seems like he's going alot, I think my Beau at 15 weeks now only goes about 3 times a day. Did you say there was mucous in the stool? Any blood, any vomiting? I never heard of the sugar cane. I wonder if that's what's causing it. I know I keep a bottle of karo syrup on hand for any signs of low blood sugar, but I don't give it to him every day as I was told it causes diarhea. Maybe it's the sugar cane?

Your pup may not be digesting his food very well, hence all the pooping. Check the IAMS ingredients, it there is corn in the first couple ingredients then you have a problem, dogs can't digest corn, so it just goes in and out, it has no nutritional value for them (corn gluten is ok though). Maybe you might want to try changing foods. My little girl was going 4 times a day....I started feeding her Royal Canin and her poops have gotten smaller and she is down to twice a day.... I'm not saying feed your dog Royal Canin but there are alot of good foods with highly digestible ingredients.

Thanks for your replys....I went out and bought Tebo some Royal Canine Mini for Juniors. I will give him some time and see if he gets any better. I went to the vet and he told me that IAMS is a high fiber food, and that is probably why he was going so much.
