Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Food issues So my little picky little pooper is giving me a problem eating Taste of the Wild Sierra now. He just loved it after trying Canine Caviar. He would eat a little slow in the morning but in the evening gobble it up. Now I have to do everything I can to get him to eat. Break it up, mix it with wet food, etc. I even sprinkled a little bit of his favorite cookie in it. I don't know if it is because My DBF is home? His schedule is off? I do not know. He is a little guy so he has to eat. I don't know if my stressing about it is also not making him eat. I am not sure what to do. I don't want to keep changing his food. I had a problem finding him something he liked the last time. And I don't want to make him any more picky. I was thinking about doing raw but I love the convenience of dry. We travel around. HELP! Please !!!! lol I really feel like a crazy person

| Is it almost the end of the bag...could it have gotten stale, or the fat/oil get rancid or something? There's nothing wrong w/switching formulas, how about trying a different protein from TOTW? I remember when Mimi was so picky, it drove me nuts! Now she eats anything...

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I was trying to stay with the lamb I wasn't sure about the wild boar formula or the bison and venison version for him. I can not believe how much of a picky little guy he is. So there is hope ?! lol I really hope he gets better.

| He could be sensing that you are stressing about the food and whether or not he is eating. I don't blame you for being concerned because he is so tiny. Also could be the changes around home. Try being happy and excited when you serve his food and then go about your business. Also try using the kibble as reward treats. I have a kibble can with a button top thingy. The boys go crazy when they hear me push the button. I had to play games with Max his first year and hand feed him. He would do tricks for almost every piece of kibble. Something like this may help Galen see the food as good. Hope you can figure out what works for him.

| I have found that if I put the kibble in a treat toy and he has to "play" to get it, Huey will eat every last bite, and fairly quickly. Now, this probably won't go over well with everyone, but when I got Huey, I was ignorant about the risk of hypoglycemia, etc in little pups, and I was determined that I would not have a dog that had to have home cooked food or be hand fed & took the stance of "when he gets hungry enough, he will eat". I didn't change his kibble (until I got on YT & learned about different foods, but he was almost 4yrs old then) nor did I make a big deal of it. I put it in the bowl, and when he eventually ate, I would put out more. Sometimes he would go 2 days on one 1/4 cup bowl (but he did get little training treats throughout the day, so he wasn't completely starved ) I was very lucky that he survived without any hypoglycemia nor lasting ill effects. Like I said, not necessarily a popular stance, but it worked for me.

| This is basically what Lola does to me, she'll eat something and then start refusing it. I don't have any advice, just sympathy. Quote:

YT 2000 Club Member | I don't have picky eaters. Even Tatiana is a hearty eater. All I have to say is "time to eat" and she comes running! I feed Nutrisca Lamb and they all love it. I totally understand why you don't want to switch foods as it does upset my yorkies systems. I also use kibble as rewards or treats. Maybe a little chicken or beef broth with the kibble would encourage him to eat!

I too have a picky eater so I found me some dog food stores that carry what the box stores don't and choose Orijen . They are willing to give you samples too. That worked for a short while then she wouldn't eat for rest of the day again. I stayed with the high quality kibble and tried topping it with ..oh mercy, Green beans, peas, carrots, sweet potatoe, chicken, broth, liver, crumbled Cherrio, ...then I tried dehydrated food and mixed a little of that in, I switched bowls to one not so deep. NOW I'm at freeze dried and crumbling a little of that on top. She loves that. Actually she ate it all at first then stops. I just think she likes variety! | |

I tried using it as a reward he looks at me like I am crazy lol he is like were is the Cheerio or cookie. I tried putting it in his peanut shaped treat toy. . Nothing. I put a little bit of peanut butter another time coconut oil in the bowl, which both used to work, wouldn't work. Tried also the wet food, nothing . . . The only thing that is somewhat working at the moment is parmesan cheese. I remembered someone saying they top the food off with it. I have to break the food up so he doesn't like the Parmesan off lol.

| Hi Terry....I have struggled with Wallee eating since I got him as well. He has never been one to eat a full "meal". The treat ball is always full of kibble on the floor and when he is playing he will randomly go to it and push it around and eat a few kibbles. I think he only eats about half a cup of kibble during the day like that however so I still try to get that "meal" in when he is cooperating at night. On the pickiest nights I have found a little moistened kibble with some cooked chicken breast cut into tiny pieces and really mixed in works. I will usually mix the bowl then microwave for about 6-7 seconds to enhance the smell and 9 times out of 10 all or most of the bowl is empty. Trust me, even with this picky eating he is now a whopping 15 lbs. |

| I now you frequent these boards and I haven't been keeping up on them for a few months now so you may have already answered this but have you considered home cooking for Galen? I home cook for Dexter and each batch I make a little different (different meats/veggies). Maybe a bit of variety will help keep his attention a bit more. |
