Are these foods bad for him??? So I was having issues getting Franklin to eat, ate very little or barely any. So, I took some tips from the threads and added some "toppers", I have used shaved apple in the morning (about a table spoon) mixed with his kibble (I remove a few kibbles to make up for the added apple, and at dinner I have used sweet potatoes/yams with the same serving amount as the apple. It worked and he ate all up the past two days! BUT today his stool was a little softer and he threw up! He has never done this before. Now is this because these two new foods are bad for him and he cannot tolerate OR is it because they are new to his body OR am I adding too much of these "toppers" OR could he just have eaten too fast? It was a small amount of vomit but still got me worried as he is only 2.5 lbs. Has anyone else had this issue???? I wanted to try other toppers too like peas, coconut oil, and blueberries but now I am scared! HELP!

Maybe a tablespoon was too much for a 2.5 lb. puppy. Try just a sprinkle of topping on his kibble. My babies are adults and only 3 lbs. and I just lightly top their food with different goodies. (healthy of course) Try a little parmesan cheese or just a few little tiny pieces of chicken so your baby will get the smell and want to eat.

A tablespoon is way too much. I give my 8 and 9 pound boys pinches and dabs of things. Teddy did not do well with apple. One tiny piece gave him tremendous gas pain. Also, you do not want treats to exceed 10 -20% of your pup's daily intake or he will be eating an unbalanced diet. Dogs need a much more carefully balanced set of nutrients than humans.

A "dab" of cottage cheese (with liquid) and/or a "dab" of yogurt work wonders for Sophie.

My two love cottage cheese I use about a teaspoon and stir it around til the kibble is coated. I would just give one food at a time for a few days- before you try the next new food one. Ziva cannot handle to many green beans and peas gave her a hard tummy.
