| Recall of Dimond Pet Food Just wanted to let everyone know that Dimond Pet Food Co. has voluntarily recalled several brands of its food Dec 21. The FDA investigated and showed nearly two dozen dogs in 23 states died after eating it. The Meta,MO.,issued a recall of 19 varieties of its dog and cat food because some of the food made in Gaston,SC. facility contained aflatoxins, according to a press report. Aflatoxin is a naturally accuring chemical that comes from fungus and sometimes found on corn and other crops. This can cause severe cases of liver damage, sluggishness, lack of appetite and, in severe cases vomiting, fever and jaundice. The recalled food was sold in 23 states including Florida, under the brand names Diamond, country value, and professional, and bears the date codes March 1 2007 through June 11 2007. For more info you can go to www.diamondpet.com I personally never used or heard of this brand but thought it would be good for everyone to know just incase some is using this food for their dogs or cats. This report was in my newspaper called in by the local farm and feed store due to having complaints of sick or dead dogs. The only plus out of this story is that the plant has released the warning as quickly as possible |
