My furkids Donating Member | changing food....AGAIN! Hi all! I recently posted about trying a new soft food. I only use a small amount as a topper....I was using wellness 95% chicken but, all of a sudden they are sticking their noses up on at it! I have noticed, depending on where it is made( they have 2 locations, here in mass) it goes from light and firm(er) to darker and mushy! AND it has a different smell....My little Bentley is the smallest and best eater of all 3...he will NOT eat this morning. My parents doggy sat for us over the weekend. Her little girl gets the same kibble as mine but, she feeds Daves naturally healthy soft food. It's a firmer food...and it's also holistic...made with all natural ingredients. I looked it up and it got 5 stars...it is also made here in Mass...anyone ever hear/try this food? what do you all think...I tried evangers...didn't like what I was told on here so that got tossed...I was going to try werurva (sp) but, I hear that is real mushy too..Dave's is a little drier so it "chuncks" better....Please comment!!!

| We have not tried Dave's so I can't comment on that, but my guys loved weruva. Wish they didn't use so much chicken...but it's not mushy @ all, it looks like real chicken...bc it is (not like evangers loll). I think the only line that weruva has that is not real looking is the kobe/ kurobuta. If my memory is correct, it was all ground up, kinda mushy texture. My guys don't mind that @ all tho. Have you looked into Lotus? They make their own canned food (based here in CA) & a member here (tokipoki) tried it & her dogs loved it. It looks like real food too, not mushed up.

| I was going to mention the Lotus LOL. They are pretty "wet" formulas though and the beef variety is kinda "gluey". I'm not sure what is considered mushy but most of the premium brands Toki has tried are kinda mushy or soupy. The firmest canned food I've ever fed is the ground Science Diet...it was really easy to cube up. My sister used to have a yorkie that would only eat wet/canned food if it was firm enough to be cut up into small cubes (strange dog) so that she could pick it up with her mouth. Hill's Ideal Balance canned foods are also pretty firm...they have little formed meat squares that are but could be mushed up if you wanted to. I'd definitely recommend Weruva (with the exception of the Steak-Frites...very gluey/pasty consistency) and Tiki Dog. I have fed many, many different types of canned foods but I can't really think of any ground/pate type foods that "chunk" well other than the ground SD which I know some people aren't thrilled about feeding. And about the Dave's food. A store near me carries this brand and the owner highly recommended it but they didn't seem to have high product turnover for so I passed. I've heard good things about Dave's canned food though...I'd go ahead and continue to use it especially since you seem to be using such a small amount anyway and your pup seems to enjoy it |
