| Having my yorkies teeth professionally cleaned! I'm nervous about having my Yorkie being put under to have her teeth cleaned. Can anyone share their past experiences to help me out here. Thanks! |

| For deep cleaning, usually the vets put Yorkies under local anesthesia so they can fully clean all the teeth. Just make sure the vet has experience working with small dogs, as too large of a dose can be fatal. But usually its fine in almost all cases. It can be a bit worrisome, but with a good vet you can trust, it will be okay. |

| Clean Teeth My Cali babe came through the teeth cleaning just fine. She had to have 2 teeth removed. The stinky breath is gone. I'm so glad I had this done. I was very nervous but I knew it must be done. It has been 2 weeks since this was done. She is so full of energy now and is playing around like she did as a puppy. I wonder now if she must of had a tooth ache or something? I wish I would have had this done a long time ago. I will now make sure those teeth get brushed no matter how hard she fights it. It's worth it!!!!!! |

| Approx how much does this cost? Is this something that still needs to be done if you regularly brush their teeth, and when should you start actually brushing their teeth? Right away or when they get their adult teeth? |

It's not anything that should be done if you don't see plaque build up on the teeth. Cali had a lot of plaque build up which was causing her to have really bad breath. If you start brushing daily while their young you shouldn't need to have them professionally cleaned. After learning the hard way, If I ever get another Yorkie I will start brushing while their a puppy. I'm sure it's a better way for them to get use to it plus it's good for their health.

Thank you! I've been looking for a toothbrush for Frankie (he'll be 4 months on April 10th) but I can't seem to find one that seems small enough. I was going to ask the vet next Friday when I take him for his last set of puppy shots.

| I read a good post where someone uses gauze to clean the teeth. They wrap the gauze around their finger w/ some flavored tooth paste on it. Maybe something you want to try. I think I will. Good luck! |
