Maybe you guys can help me.

Hello everyone :)
My 4 year old Yorkie Ashton weighs around 4-5 lbs and I've struggled finding him good dog food that he'll actually eat for as long as i can remember. I've been free feeding him Merrick dry dog food for the past few months now, and i'm wondering how many of you guys feed your babies Merrick? a few days ago Ashton didn't eat for 2 and a half days so i did some research online and found that it was okay to soak their dry food in goat milk because to make it easier for them to thew (he's a lazy chewer) so for the past two days I've been feeding him 1/4 cup day and night with a little bit of goat milk from trader joe's and he's been LOVING it, but i want to hear what you guys have to say about that, He's been fine on it and hasn't had runny stool so far but i don't want to cause harm in the long run. I just seriously drive myself crazy when it comes to what i'm feeding him. Alsoooo have any of you guys tried OC Raw Dog and your thoughts on that too please.

Sorry for the long post. new at this. :animal-pa

Hi There! Peanut was an eater like Ashton.. Between allergies and him not really liking the food we have been through it all. I started him on Canine Caviar and I’ve seen a major improvement. He actually likes the food. I feed him the Open Sky which is duck. His allergies have completely went away.

I believe we have a member that feeds the OC Raw dog, that is funny you mentioned it- we were just talking about it yesterday. Here is the thread.

I found this thread about Goats Milk..

Jenny posted this site, it has info about Goats Milk

http://answerspetfood.com/

Hopefully you are able to find something Ashton likes!!

P.S What city are you in?

Thank you for your help :)
I looked into all those links and i think i'm going to try the raw food, maybe as treats. I just started using the goat milk to soak his food and he's loves it. He's actually been sitting next to his food bowl the past few days while i prepare everything wiggling his nub like "hurry up momma" :p i'm going to look into Canine Caviar as soon as he runs out. I read some post on here about the Merrick dog food being on recall at some point and it really freaked me out.

I live in Seaside, CA

P.s - I'm glad that you were able to find something for peanuts allergies.

Be careful with using Raw as a treat. From what I heard Raw is suppose to be used as a meal.. I guess dogs digest raw and kibble differetly. Maybe if you wanted to try Raw replace it with a breakfast or dinner.. I dont think I would use it as a treat. Im not to keen on Raw, so hopefully someone can chime in for ya.

I can send you a sample of my CC if you like..? Peanut adores it. He really loves the taste. His skin, eyes, coat, everything looks so good!! It is really amazing. I've been so amazed how Peanuts allergies are a thing of the past. Some have good luck with it and some dont, but you never know until you try. However with Ashton not really liking the food he is on, it would be great to hear if you found something you dont have to add milk to!!

I have a GS that is a super picky eater and I've tried everything with her. The longest she's gone without eating is 3 days. My yorkie right now is eating bill jacks. The kibbles are shaped like pellets and not hard to bite on. He loves it!(thank goodness I'm lucky with one dog eating :p) have you tried putting the food out for 15 minutes then putting it away? I had to do that with my GS and after 2 weeks or so she gave in to eating when food is there and eating what I give her. She is very stubborn and went on a year of being a very picky eater. I must've tried over 7 different brands of kibbles. My trainer says "they will eventually eat and not starve themselves so keep being consistent with timing their meals"

Hope that helps and good luck! :D

I still have to do my research in raw food's if i ever were to try it, i think i would do it as my last option. i just looked up the CC food and i don't live near a store that sales it, have you ever ordered it from the website? and that would be awesome, i'd love a sample. I read that the goat milk is suppose have benefits for them so i don't necessary mind buying it for him, i just want him to like what he's eating with the milk.

I lost count on how many times I've switched Ashtons kibble. In the past I've tried putting it down for 30 minutes then picking it back up but it was hard to stick to it because he went days without eating and since i was living at home at the time, my family would just give in and buy him soft food (which i don't like giving him because it causes him to have runny stool all the time) but when i moved i tried it again and it would break my heart not seeing him eat, he would throw up sometimes too and i just couldn't take seeing him like that so i just gave in and left the food down all the time but now with the goat milk, he's just in the am and pm. I'll add Bill Jacks to my list. Thank you for your help :)

I'm so glad i found this site! Normally when i talk to people about my baby they tell me i'm worrying too much and that he's just a dog but he's my little man and i just want whats best for him.

I too have a picky eater, I literally tried everything. He was on premade raw for awhile but got tired of it..he is currently on Orijen six fish kibble and I sprinkle stella and chewys freeze-dried raw on top. He loves it, gobbles it up..so far no issues...good poop, nice hair/skin, no eye goobers. I couldn't be happier. I did a lot of research and some yorkies have gain weight or got pancreatitis from stella and chewy due to high fat content. I'm not comfortable feeding him just S&C exclusively so I use it as a topper. That might work for your baby. Best part, benefits of raw with convenience of kibble. Good luck, hope you find what your baby likes.

I have a very picky eater and she is 6 and all 6 years she has never really liked dog food well a friend suggested Now Small breed and for the first time ever she will go to her bowl and eat her food and not just a few bites. It had gotten to where I was having to hand feed her to get her to eat anything.

There is also home cooking which I personally am very fond of and when Callie decides to not like her dog food she is on I am going to switch. You need a recipe from a vet nutritionist (which you can do online) and a supplement but it really is awesome and many people on here do it.

Goat's milk is great & so glad to hear your little guy likes it & it agrees w/his tummy. Like Deanna mentioned, I'm feeding my guys OC Raw Dog. So far very good (no smell firm tiny poopies)! I only give it to them for 1 meal bc I have 4 mouths to feed & it can get very expensive. They get Canine Caviar kibble for another meal & currently, they're enjoying Open Sky.
As far a giving raw as a treat, that's fine, but it would probably be better to give as a full meal bc your guy will LOVE it. Some people say not to mix it w/kibble bc kibble takes longer to digest & it can ferment, but some say it's fine for transition. It would ultimately come down to how your individual dog does on it, since all dogs are different. I think freeze dried raw would be a better option to use as a topper for kibble than premade raw.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Bil Jac uses BHA as a preservative. BHA... a Time Bomb in Dog Food?

the grain free sun dancer from solid gold is good for picky eaters and is only 30% protein, chester done great on it or the wee bits from solid gold

There are many great foods and you will get many opinions. My dogs are currently eating Amicus and they really like it and are doing very well on it. I have also fed Horizon Legacy and Fromm, which they also like and do well on. When we got our silky puppy (Bella Rose) we were feeding Amicus and she went right after it! She wouldn't touch her puppy food after eating the Amicus. Since we don't want to upset her tummy, we just keep feeding the Amicus to all our dogs for now. When she is a little older, we may start rotating foods again. My dogs are "grazers" and I free feed them. I put the food and water up around 8:00 at night and then put it back down again in the morning. During the day the food and water are available all the time. This is what my dogs are used to. I would say when you find something that works, stick with it.

I use dry kibble (chicken soup for the dog lovers soul) with a small amount of white meat chicken mixed in. Good luck!
