| Petey and his Cushings Hi all, just wanted to let everyone know Petey is doing really well with his Cushings, the diet I have him on is doing him justice. There is one thing that I found that gives him diarrhea and maybe other people might find it does the same to their Yorkies if they have a delicate constitution, the Chicken Flavored Enzyme Toothpaste (from the Vet). Petey goes nuts over it and lines up to has his teeth brushed, I don't give him much but I'm finding little piles on his mistake paper in the bathroom which is rarely used for #2, the Cushings makes him pee like crazy so the paper is used only in the middle of the night when he can't wake either of us up or it's urgent! Has anyone else have that kind of trouble with the Enzymatic Tooth Paste?? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm confused -- if his Cushings is managed, then he should no longer be peeing like crazy - that stops when the Cushing meds are titrated correctly. Diet doesn't manage Cushings at all, but it sounds like you're saying you're 'managing' Cushings w/ his diet....? All diet helps with in terms of Cushings is that it can help those dogs who are overweight as a result of UNmanaged or UNtreated Cushings. What meds are you using for his Cushings?

Before I did this he was about 6lbs (which is 1/2 of his regular weight), he had diarrhea, he was bloating to the point of laying down on the grass in major pain, he was vomiting once or twice a day, his hair was falling out, he was drinking tons of water and pee'ing about 20 times a day, his hind legs had no strength and he was wobbly and every other symptom. He was put on Metro...?.(antibiotic) for the diarrhea and it helped some. I changed his diet (making his own food), every day he gets...1/2 tsp of Kelp Based Wellness Formula (which has over 70 minerals and vitamins), I give him 3 ml ground flax seed, and pumpkin, he gets 4000 mg of Omega 3 fish oil, 5 mg of Melatonin and a 1/2 capsule of Digestive Enzymes. After 3 months on this regime all the symptoms slowly went away, his hair grew back a bit wiry but it did grow back, and yes I said he still pee's a lot if you compare him to my Shi-itzu, but it still isn't as much as he used to! and he's gained back all his weight! | |

I do hope you understand what excess intrinsic cortisol does to a body when uncontrolled. Hopefully you're watching his levels via the tests. Which blood tests are you using to monitor his levels and what were his last levels?
