| Please help us :( Can someone please help us. I till try to give as much info as possible. My baby girl Akira will be 2 in Sept. when she was about 6 months old she started scratching all the time. I took her to the vet where they took her off royal canine (for puppies) and put her on prescription ( Hills) diet z/d ultra allergen free. They also did allergy testing and couldn't find anything. So they put her on vanectyl p because she's only 1lbs 6 ounces she takes 1/4 every other day. We live in Canada and she's itchy all the time, she's also an indoor dog (baby) and uses a pee pad. She rubs her face on any carpet she can find, rubbing herself in circles. She chews her feet, and always rubbing her face. I use oatmeal shampoo ( bath her once a wk) and when I take her to the groomer I get them to use a shampoo that won't make her itchy, the groomer says her skin looks fine. Two wks ago I took her off the vanctyl p...I'm really don't want to have her on medication...(scared of the long term affects). I talk to the breeder and the owner of her brother all the time to see if any other baby has this problem...her brother does not have this problem and the breeder says no one else told him they have a problem either. On another note, not sure if anyone else's baby does this, when Akira goes to eat she waves her paw over her dish 3 times before sneaking a kibble, she runs off with it drops it on a pillow, scratches the pills and watches the kibble move around before she eats it. When she's done she sneaks back walking in the same path every time until she's full. It's cute to watch her, but not sure why she does it. If anyone can help me, it would mean so much to us. Have a great day Bobbie-jo |

| So, her allergy test showed that she wasn't allergic to anything? That's odd...most who are allergic will show that their allergic to grass & dust... I would stop using oatmeal shampoo, if they're allergic to grain, it would not help the allergies. Is her food grain free too? Maybe try different allergy meds? IDHave any advice to give, sorry she's going through this & hope others w/more experience chime in. She's 2 & is 1# 6oz? Or was that her puppy weight? Have you considered getting her BAT (Bile Acid Test) to check her liver function? Read on here that dogs w/liver issues have itchy problems.

| Thank you so much for the reply, My vet did the allergy test, there is a place to have further testing done, but she says it's a waste of money. She thinks it''s grain that she has an allergy to. Her food is grain free. She checked her liver also and it was fine. I will stop using the oatmeal shampoo and see if that helps. After that I'm thinking maybe it's something in my laundry soap I use. I will keep trying to find the problem. Yes she's 2 in Sept and her weight is 1.6 lbs. Again thank you so much for the reply. Have a great day |

| I can't help with the itchy, but with regard to the behavior at mealtime - that's totally normal for a Yorkie. All of ours are actually Yorkie mixes, but all three of them do exactly what you are describing. I don't know how many times they move their paw over the kibble but they do the exact same thing. I think the vast majority of Yorkies eat playfully...and not "face in bowl" like larger breeds. |

| I'm glad to hear other Yorkie's do this as well. It is cute to watch the things she does. I just wanted to make sure it was normal. My husband agrees we should have her tested further. So hopefully we will get to the bottom of this. Thank you all once again. |

| I'd probably consult a vet dermatologist/specialist. Mandie doesn't wave her paw over her feeding bowl. That sounds so stinkin cute! She does carry the food off sometimes though. Not always..many times, she will stand at her bowl and eat. But on playful days, she'll get a piece and toss it up in the air like a little ball and chase it down a few times and then eat it lol Edit to add: wow, she's tiny! 1.6 lbs at 2 year old? I'd be so scared all the time. I get freaked out over Mandie's size and she's a little over 6 lbs lol

| STAR, too After 3 years of itching/scratching, ear infections and most recent skin infection, my yorkie has been diagnosed by vet/dermatologist as having ENVIRONMENTAL allergies! I spent the years giving prescription food to no avail (though she loves it!). I am trying to figure out our next step. See Allergy Testing thread. The condidtion is called ATOPY. I wonder if the breeder is aware of this condition in her offspring? |
