| Scratching Help Coco is almost 4yrs old. We adopted her about 2 months ago. We've been feeding her Royal Canine. I also give her Wellness treats (Yogurt, Apple, Banana). She absolutely LOVES this flavor. For the last couple of weeks she's been scratching. Didn't think too much about it at first because it really wasn't excessive. She scratches different areas on her body and not just one place. She is scratching daytime & nighttime. It's still not excessive but it's really much to much in my opinion. We walk pretty much everyday. We live in the country and so she gets in the grass. No red bumps, no ticks, no fleas. No flaky skin. She is bathed every other week with espree. I've been very good to rinse her well. I then use the conditioner and rinse it very well. Coco's coat is kept short because it's hot here and we live in the country. I did finally just give her some children's benadryl liquid. Any ideas on what may be going on with her? It's just crazy to me that she has just started this itching. I really don't think it's her food because she's been on it for nearly 2 months. She gets the Wellness treats 3-4 times daily and I really don't think that's the problem. If it were the grass causing the itching wouldn't she have some red bumps or maybe a rash? Thank you |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | It's sometimes hard to figure out why they start scratching. My Cali was a few years old when she developed allergies. I did all the testing and they couldn't determine what was causing her to scratch so bad. She is on medicine for her allergies and is so much better. I hope you can find out what is causing her to scratch.

| Sounds like seasonal environmental allergies but it would be good to talk to your vet she can tell you what she thinks. Callie has this problem and my vet said bathe her every week and suggested Omega 3 fatty acids. I also have medicine for when she is really itching. I also wipe her feet every night before bed so she doesn't drag any pollen or anything into her crate. Callie normally ends up with on skin infection a year but I am doing my best to keep it from happening.

| Does it get worse before it gets better? Our Twinkie was diagnosed two weeks ago and is on meds. Her skin looks much more irritated now than it did then. Pam |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Food allergies are rare, so I'd be wondering more about enviro / seasonal. Check pollen.com to track current pollens in your area, bc that may be what she's allergic too. Allergies are tough. You can try OTC meds - most Vet Derms recommend Zyrtec or Claritin over Benadryl bc you only have to give those once a day, whereas Benadryl should really be given 3-4x day to be effective (it has a very short half life). See if the OTC meds work. If not, then you could move to Temaril-P or steroids, both which come from the vet. If allergies are all yr round or close to it, then you want to consider Atopica or allergy testing. This is a thread about how to approach allergies: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html

| My baby started with a few red spots around her private area 3weeks or so ago! I thought it was probably heat and have been keeping an eye on it. after a weekend outside in the evening she has pimples all over her belly up to her neck. She isn't normally outside and up until October she had never been outside. The vet told me to switch her to sensitive skin science diet when I first noticed it. These bumps aren't as red the higher they go up. And she has been scratching some but no more than normal. Her food is the only thing that has changed that I can control! Is it environmental allergies? Help!
