| the risk of cracked teeth unfortunately leaves one with not many to choose from. Himalaya chews are their favorite but im just so afraid. we used to use bully sticks. they are free range ..but the drawback is bacteria if they hang around to long and they also get stringy you have to cut them and monitor as they can choke on them. we used to get ours from best bully sticks...odor free. they do make nylabones which are ok when I used them.

| Well there is a chewy chew that is like dentastick but healthier and it is called get naked. Chews like Bullysticks, Himalayan, and antlers can all brake teeth. My baby just broke her tooth on Bullystick and it had to be pulled. Not only did the tooth tip break off it cracked down the middle.

| Jeez, I'm not sure what to do then - He needs something long lasting, or else he eats it like a snack and looks for something to chew chew... Is "bully stick" the brand name or does it encompass all of those kinds of chews?

| That's too much information, LOL! I give my Bella a chicken-flavored Nylabone. She also likes to chew on those knotted rope bones and tiny cloth stuffed animals that are very durable (sold at Petsmart and Walmart). Be sure to discard the stuffed animals if they start to leak, or your dog will swallow the stuffing and the squeaker. |

What Bully Sticks dog treats are made from, product analysis What are bully sticks dog treats made from? Bully sticks, also known as beef pizzles, pizzle sticks, beef sticks, steer stix, are made from 100% bull penises. Bull penis is a single ingredient of bully sticks. Some suppliers and merchants say that they sell bully sticks made of "beef tendons" or "dried muscles" as that part of the anatomy is a tendon and muscle indeeed, and this may sound less repulsive for some people with psychological barrier thinking of feeding bull privates to their furbabies. In the beginning of manufacturing process the bull's penis that is usually 23-25 inches long, is removed and cleaned. It is hung vertically for the fluids contained to fully drain. Without these fluids bully sticks are odor free. At the next stage of processing bull penises are stretched, twisted or braided, dried and then may be smoked for flavor. The result is a 30-40 inches long very hard brown stick which is cut into pieces suitable for dogs of any size. Thus you can buy small bully sticks of 4'', large beef pizzles of 30 inches and any length between, such as 5'', 6'', 7'', 9'' and 12''. As bully sticks are 100% natural product, thickness, shape and color may slighty vary. Compared to other dog chews, bully sticks last incredibly long time. It can take weeks for a small dog to chew on one bully stick, while large breeds may enjoy chewing of bull pizzles between a few hours and a few days. | |

| Jackson is really picky. I've bought CET chews (and yes, they're rawhide, but not the typical knotted, etc, you find in the pet store. I felt they were a bit safer) but he refuses to chew them. He literally will walk around and bury them. Never chewing them. Himalayan Chews -- sometimes he's chewed one for a bit, but loses interest fast. He refuses to touch Nylabones. The only one he chewed for all of 2 minutes once was the blue dental one. He loooovess bully sticks, and I would always buy the jumbo 12" ones so they'd last us a few days. But I haven't bought any in a while, they're just so expensive, and even though he would go chew when he was bored, he seemed to be losing interest in those too. The only thing I give him now is 'Get Naked' chews... I don't like to call them a chew though because he finishes them within 60 seconds but it seems to 'satisfy' him if he starts to bug me, I give him one, he goes and chews and tends to lay down afterward. They have a large size that would last a Yorkie longer.
