YorkieTalk Newbie! | Scratching Ear...suggestions please Itchy, our 4mo old, started scratching at his right ear a day and a half ago. Upon inspecting the ear, I saw nothing at all. It is very clean, no appearance of mites or stray hairs. Itchy's scratching has gotten more frequent and become almost like digging in his ear and the ear will turn sometimes from the itching. He has not broken the skin inside or outside the ear. This scratching started when it was raining outside, so there is a possibility a drop of rain dripped inside the ear...I am just guessing though. Can anyone suggest a remedy that they know is not harmful? Thanks for your help! |

| For some reason Yorkies seem to have a lot of issues with scratchy ears and the culprit usually is yeast. Seems their hairy ears easily become moist, sweaty ears which provides the perfect breeding ground for yeast.

| I would have your vet take a look. Sometimes ear infections don't show outward signs until they are really bad. Scratching is a definite sign of discomfort. If it were just water, it would have dried by now. It could also be allergies. Does he scratch a lot and is that why he is named Itchy?

| Sounds like a trip to the vet is needed. You can only see so far into the ear.
