| Ear drop hell! I'm trying to give Ruger ear drops. After some research on the Net I tried sneaking up on him which kinda worked, but now if I even look at him and think about giving him the ear drops he runs off. He'll come up and sit with me on the couch, start to doze off, and I'm thinking, "Now's my chance." At that point he jumps up and runs off. Any ideas? BTW, he's really strong (13 lbs) and he's very difficult to hold not to mention holding his head still. OK. He's lying on the floor and I'm gonna try sneaking up on him again. Well, I pulled the top off the bottle and he woke up and ran off. |

| I put pixie on the dressing counter and I kind of hold her beard so that she can't turn her head away and drop them in quick. She hates them too and gets so pissed off at me.

| That's a great idea, except Rugers beard isn't long enough to grab. Right now he's hiding and I'm too lazy to look for him. |

| He's on Mometamax prescribed by his vet. I think it's for ear infections. Heck, they had to sedate him just to look in there with an otoscope. |

| Adding to the suggestions above, if you can put him on the counter and body block him or have a helper make sure he doesn't jump, that would probably help. Hold the top of his ear flap and rest your hand on his head to steady him. Yummy treats and praise for sure. Hope you can get those drops in.

| My Drama Queen Eva would go bat crazy when I had to put drops in her ears. If she ever saw me reach for anything that resembled the drops she would jerk her head back, stand straight up like a "Lycan", and try to walk off the grooming table. I had to put the drops in, so I wrapped her all around in a soft blanket, like an infant, held her in my arms and with the speed of a ninja I got the drops in her ears.

| Callie had to have ear drops once and she would let me put them in there but acted like they were hurting her afterwards and the vet said she was probably allergic. Does he act like he is in pain after they get in there.

| Well, Ruger does run around and rubs his head on the carpet and couch, etc., but he doesn't act like he's in pain at all. |

| Finally something that's working. While today is the last day he needs drops I came up with a plan that works. Before I take Ruger out in the morning I switch out his collar and get him to jump up on the bed to do it. He always lies down when I switch his collar, so now I've got him down with my hand on his collar. I just grab the drops while holding him down and he seems to put up with it, no treats no nothing. My plan is to do this with the cap on the dropper until he is completely calm so the next time there will be no problems. I urge all of you, especially all the new moms and pops out there, to play with your dogs ears, paws, teeth and anything else you can think of while they are pups to get them used to being handled by you or the vet if need be. |

This is the third time this has happened and we've come up with several theories as to why. | |
