| teeth extractions I took Phoebe for her annual checkup today & the vet said she needed a dental (I expected that). He also said some of her teeth are loose & will probably need to be pulled. I was shocked because she's not even 3 yet, and I was told she didn't need a dental at her check up last year. I was so shocked, I didn't ask questions (believe me I will)! I've had yorkies for years & know how bad their teeth can be. I've just never had one where the teeth got so bad IN ONE YEAR that they had to be extracted. Is that common, or have I just been lucky in the past? Should I be doing dentals more than once a year??

| My dog teddy had very little tartar on two back teeth and at age 3.5 I had a dental done. He lost 7 teeth that were diseased or dead when X-rays were taken. It's genetics.

| Genetics plays a big part. You should also brush them to avoid as much tarter building up under the gums as possible.
