| Bloated stomach after being on corticosteroid? Hailey was on Prednisone( corticosteroid) for a month due to a compressed disk in her neck. The vet said that bloating was normal while on prednisone but a month later after being off of it she was still bloated. I took her in for some blood work(which came back normal)and they ran X-rays on her stomach and it showed she had trapped air in there. He put her on Metoclopramide 5 mg to see if it helps. He said it should help food move faster and reduce gas. It's been a week and her belly is still large. On top of that she's also congested and she's on antibiotic (see my previous thread at http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-now-help.html ) Has any of your dogs experienced this after being on prednisone? If so did anything help relieve the gas in the stomach?Any products at the pet store perhaps? I'll be taking her back to the vet on Tuesday though and let him know. | I’m not sure.. I will bump this up to see if anyone has experience in this. Hopefully your Vet will be able to help make your baby more comfortable.

| My yogi has been on pred now for 3 weeks, vet said a bloated belly could be side effect of this but would go away awhile after he's tapered off. No bloat noted as yet but his appetite has increased. Good luck. |

| One of my little ones was on aReglan for over a year, but she was almost sixteen years old when we began it. She had many gas pockets in her belly because she was taking in too much air due to a collapsing trachea. Baby Gas-x drops helped with her gas, as well.

| I bought the baby drops. You can use Mylicon drops, and most of the time that's what I bought. It's safe for newborns. Pepcid stops the acid, but I don't think it will relieve the gas. Ashley was on the Reglan and Mylicon for about a year. They didn't solve the problem since it was caused by her trachea issues, but they relieved her symptoms. The drops should help right away. They are worth trying.

| Mylicon drops are 20 mg for the amount of drops they tell you to give an infant. One quarter of a Gas-x tablet is 20 mg, so they are equivalent. I'm not sure when to give the drops. I gave them to Ashley when I gave her her other medications before meals. She passed away almost three years ago, so I'm sorry if my details are a little fuzzy.

| I hope they help, too. I chose the infant drops because they were easier to give Ashley than a pill. They are both simethicone. Ashley was adored her whole life. She remained very active her whole life. Although she was close to seventeen, it was so difficult to lose her. Still, we were so lucky to share our lives with such a special little girl, and we were blessed that Ashley remained mostly healthy for so many years.

| Update Well, Hailey is still bloated. She had an ultrasound and it showed nothing but food and air in her stomach. Vet thinks she could have a delayed gastric emptying and put her on Metaclopramide again ( this time every 6 hours) plus Gas-x and Pepcid every 12 hours. So far it's been over a week with no improvement at all. Did anyone experience this with their dogs ? What worked for you? She's been sick too long...... |

| Try adding more fiber to her diet, it may help move things along quicker. Fresh or frozen green beans are a very good source of fiber, also canned pumpkin but be sure it's NOT pumpkin pie filling. |
