| are rawhides okay for yorkies? bunjee visited a new friend yesterday and kept stealing his new friend, a shih tzu's rawhide. evidently he loves the stuff. the shih tzu is an adult and much bigger than bunjee (12 lbs vs. 3.5 lbs). and i could have swore i read somewhere that rawhides are not very good for small breed dogs. but can't recall why or where i read it. is there validity to that statement? are rawhides okay for yorkies? |

| I don't ever give them to Lucky. I've heard bad stuff about them. But as anything if you do give them please just watch him & take it away when it gets small.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | not good When Bailey at 12 weeks 6#, was in our home 4 days-- he stopped eating, going to the bathroom--pooping, and cried in righteous pain. We rushed him to the ER vet--he was impacted with Rawhide and puppy jerky treats--several enemas later and medication, the vet told us Bailey could've died. My vet says NO rawhide, no ears, only Nylabones under supervision. Dayzee is a frenzied chewer--nothing keeps her happy but greenie chips and big Nylabone chew things. |

| You can give "bully sticks" which are 100% digestible.

| I've been told that the cheap rawhides (e.g. Walmart) could have formaldehyde in them from the leather curing process. Don't know if that is true or not, but I don't give Rowdy any rawhides.

| Rawhides are OK, but only in small amounts. As with ANY size dog, too much of rawhide can upset their tummys and not digest fully. So only let your baby chew for a little while. It's OK if they chew on one everyday, only if they chew a little but of it everyday. A whole rawhide can be very harsh on their system and make them sick. Hope that helps!
