Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Are beans good or bad I finally did it! After many trips to the vet, lots of almost full bags of food donated to the local shelter, and quite of money spent , I decided to start home cooking. After just a week, Max's bloody diarrhea has stopped and he is feeling good and playful again. I have been searching for new recipes, but have found conflicting information regarding beans, one site says that beans re a great source of protein for dogs, other site says that beans can be highly toxic, hard on their kidneys, maybe even a cause of dead . Tonight I wanted to make lentils with vegetables and greens but now I dont know if I should or get another recipe. Does anyone know if beans are good or bad for the furkids?

| I dont know about lentils...I give my guys green beans all the time. There is a web site "balance-it" that I buy suppliments and they will give you a receipe. That is a good place to start. It is important they are getting all the nutrients they need. Good luck

| From what I can find online, beans are fine for dogs, but they still need meat as beans do not provide the correct amount of protein needed for good health.Lentils are recommended as a good source of protein for dogs A List of Table Foods to Feed a Dog | eHow.com

| Dogs have a slightly acidic pH & beans are acidic, so are proteins from different animal sources...where as people need an alkaline pH...so lots of beans & BBQ are not so good for us. Mine LOVE beans (kidney, lima & pinto) w/brown rice & chicken but Momo poops out the beans whole loll. Don't think he can digest it very well, or he's not chewing his food.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I just came back to find your replies. Thank you all. I am doing pasta, carrots, green beans, ground chicken, ground beef, sweet potato, rice, and so far they like everything. They are used to have dry food out at all times, and with home cooked meals what ever they leave, is thrown away, so the nibbling they were used to do, it cant be done anymore .
